Yeah, and ya know? I started getting interested in bikes about 1969-70 when I was 12-13 years old. Bought all the magazines. Although I vividly recall the Mach III 500cc triple, I have zero recollection of a big vertical twin from Kawasaki. I definitely remember the 450 Honda, 650 Yamaha and of course the BSA's, Triumphs and Nortons, though. Weird!

Just got this today-
I've been kind of back burner looking for a few years.
I have a 125cc Yamaha scooter I got in 2014 after I let go of my last real bike, a 1400 Intruder.
I bought the scooter to go back and forth to my shop which is 1/4 mile away, but it does well on all but the fastest roads so I also go small item shopping/beer running, etc.
Can't ride it to work, though because avoiding the 60 MPH roads adds 20 minutes to an already 40 minute commute.
I've kind of had the itch for a couple of years and have been browsing.
My wife has also made some comments about missing riding.
She has her endorsement but is afraid her hip might pop out at an inopportune time.
I've never owned a Harley before, but that's what I've been browsing for, kind of because I've never had one.
This one checked off all the boxes on what I wanted (or didn't want) next in a motorcycle.
It's a 2011 Sportster 1200 "fat tire" with factory installed forward controls and an OEM passenger backrest
Checks the box on forwards (I'm tall) and backrest (for Mrs. YY1)
I really wasn't knowledgeable about the fat tire option, but I hear it helps with the ride. I'll passively check that box too.
I also wanted EFI, check, and did NOT want spokes, check. Black just suits Harleys- check.
Bonus- 2300 miles. Yes hundred. It's almost not broken in yet.
It was also right at my budget of 5K give or take.
I've seen a LOT of older or more mileage Sporty's asking several thousand more.
Gave it some shakedown/get acquainted miles today.
It reminds me a LOT of that 1400 Intruder but is actually a bit better balanced if a bit less refined feeling.
I miss the Suzuki's hydraulic clutch, but I don't miss the top-heavy feeling.

Well, the unthinkable has happened: I'm a two-motorcycle guy!
My father-in-law has had a 2005 Screamin' Eagle CVO Fatboy for around five years. He's 85 now, and only rides his trike. The Fatboy has been sitting in his shop, covered with a sheet. I've been bugging him to sell it to me, but he always says: "I'm not ready. I just like to look at it."
Then, this week, out of the blue, he told my wife: "I've decided to give the Fatboy to Clay." Holy ****. I'm stunned. So, here's my Goldwing, and the new toy. I do have the original seat with the chrome trim.

IMO the best engine HD ever made is the 1200 Evo Sportster. No, I don't own one. I do have the Buell XB12, which is a hot-rodded Evo.
The Sporster is unit design, with 4 cams the valve train geometry is better than the big twins. Unit design means no alignment problems with the trans. The newer Big Twins went to having the trans bolted directly to the engine, which is half way to making it unit, and 2 cams, which is half way to getting the geometry right.
Should
be a lot of fun.
