John Player Nortons had full frame-mounted fairings in ‘74.

Sure, I remember them well. Fairing made by Avon who also made fairings for BMW /2 and some credit the Butler&Smith /5 version to Avon as well. Hard to really consider it a standard feature on a production bike when it was an homage to their race bike and so few of them were ever made. But, credit where credit is due. Beautiful bikes. Wonder how many clones there are out there today?

Wiki says: "The Norton Commando John Player Special was a 1974 limited edition version of the Norton Commando that was fitted with bodywork styled to reproduce the successful Formula 750 works racers that were sponsored by cigarette manufacturers John Player & Sons. The machine was based on the Mk2A 850 Commando. Around 200 of these machines were made, of which about 120 were exported to the US"

True for me as well....after getting out of the military, I owned a BSA Lightning 650, then a Norton Commando. One day, I test-rode a Kawi KZ-1000, bought it on the spot, and never looked back....

I can relate. My "starter" bike was a KZ 900 that I had custom-painted by a local legend artist. In 1982 I traded the KZ900 for a KZ 1000 which was scary fast in its day. In 1990 I slowed down the pace by getting a Harley FXRS-SP which I enjoyed for 20 years. And finally in 2010 I traded in the FXR for an FXDF which I still ride to this day. A lot of miles and a lot of smiles over the years. Ride safe guys.

2015 DRZ 400. Liquid cooled 5 sp. I got it mainly for exploring back roads.

Interesting back story (to me anyway) Here's my short version: (Mid?) 60's...Meguro in Japan acquires from BSA rights to A7 design...Kawasaki acquires Meguro...Kawasaki has built versions of the design off and on over the years; very successfully in Europe and Asia but less so in North America.
