Similar to the H/K 330c

Dear AKers,

I am very satisified with my harman kardon 330c, and would like to find a similar sounding old receiver as a secondary system. Similar sound is: warm, good details, PUNCHY also at low volumes! Thank you for your help!

The whole 330c 430 730 line is quite good...there have been several 630's on the bay recently for not too much. Good luck

The HK 430 twin powered is the same as the 330c, but with twin power supplies. Should be a tiny bit more punchy at low volumes than a one-transformer 330c.

The Luxman R-1030 or R-3030 are also nice receivers of that power range, these 30 wpc. Harder to find but can be cheaper. Seems all our talk about the HKs has boosted prices. Still great receivers and worth the money. Both 330s I have had were great units.

I would recommend that you get the 330c's bigger brother - the HK730 as your primary receiver and relegate the 330c to your second system.

The HK730 sounds identical to the 330c at lower to medium listening volumes. I also have the HK430 and the A402, the former supposed to be the "twin" of the 330c and the latter supposed to be a HK730 sans the tuner. I looked the schematics and they do differ slightly resulting in the same overall sound but lacking the incredible resolution of the 330c and the 730.
You might also look at the Maranz 2220B, it has very pleasant sound, but lacks the resolution of the 330c and 730.
