Upgrade Company mods for Mcintosh amps

I don't plan to mod my gear; however, the thought doesn't offend me either. If we were talking about cars, moding them would almost be a given. Every car I've owned that I cared about I've tweaked. The ones that someone may want to collect I was carefully to retain the stock parts so it could be returned to stock if the future custodian was so inclined. This is a goofy hobby where spending $1,000’s on wires is rational but publicly contemplate modifying a piece of Mc gear is borderline heresy. :screwy:

I keep laughing and thinking,Mac-n-Krell, :D That's what you could end up with:D

:nono: A local audio store demoed the new Krell evo's with Wilson wp8's. With all I've read on the forums I expected to have my ears drilled from my head with this combo...not so, it sounded wonderful. Big, rich, 3d, organic presentation, nothing bright, edgy, or hyper analytical about it. I was pleasantly surprised.

Lucky for you! I have heard all the evo stuff through a variety of speakers (Revel, Vivid...) and it was horrendous to me. Of course, when they switched over to the dartzeels.......:thmbsp::banana::music:

You should have heard the Krell Evo driving the Sonus Fabers. :thmbsp:

My "Gold Standard" Esoteric X01D2 sounds about the same to me as my Primare CD31 sitting next to it. Perhaps the $16,000 player needs some secret sauce to really set it apart :D.

I think all it needs is a good mod then may it will sound better than your Primare!!:D

Does anyone know what caps the Mcintosh amps use?
In my MC501s the large power supply filter caps are labeled McIntosh made in USA. As far as I can tell all the smaller caps are either Wima or Rubycon. In my MDA1000 there were also Muse caps. From my premod inspection of my McIntosh equipment it looks like quality parts were used throughout, not the best parts but definitely quality parts.

Victor,

What would be 'better' parts than the custom made for McIntosh parts you outlined?

Thanks,
Ron-C

Modifing a current McIntosh amplifier makes me think of having a local mechanic change something on a Bentley after it took the factory two-plus months to build it. :thumbsdn:
