What is your favorite guitar solo and why?

For me it's from the song Aqualung by the album of the same name and played by Martin Barre.

He is one fine guitarist.

David Gilmore's solo in Shine on You Crazy Diamond PtVI - IX is my favorite, single piece of music and can give me chills and make the hair on my arms stand up to this day...

Agreed -- David Gilmore is unique and chill-worthy for sure. So many of the other guitarists mentioned use a lots of notes, even perpetually understated Mark Knopfler uses more notes -- but David just does these fluid lines that fit perfectly the song perfectly and are drenched with emotion.
