Man, that sucks!Well you gave your best shot, I'll bet though that the seller got a bunch of calls and subsequent offers for more money may have been the deciding factor.
Keep your head up, there will always be other chances...the problem is having to wait for them. However, sometimes when one door closes, another opens.

Maybe if you'd bought them, those Voice of the Theatres would have shown up for $100, and you wouldn't have the money because you spent it on the LaScalas. Stuff like that happens. It's happened to me. I think "score!" then see something else I'd like soon after, that I don't really have the money for.
It all works out, and there are more LaScalas in the sea. Sorry, though, and it was an entertaining wait.

Ya know.. not to change the subject, but since these fell through....
I'm getting ready to veneer my speakers.. I think I'm going to have to try taking some of this raw cherry and oak, and just load it up with some howards and see how it looks using that instead of something like tung or stain.. I know all the other stuff I've used it on has come out fantastic looking, but it also wasn't raw wood.. all been stained, and some had clear finishes on them..
I'll also have to try some of the restore-a-finish on it and see how it comes out. It's got a light brown color...

I recently used it on unstained veneer with great results. I had a Marantz cabinet that had been varnished, poorly, with some kind of thick cherry/purple something. I hand sanded it all the way down to raw veneer. I was thinking about using tung oil, but tried Howards on it because it was all I had at my place. Wow! It looks great. Combined with the smooth finish (I ended with 600 grit then OOO steel wool) the Feed n Wax gave it a luster that isn't there on any of my vintage cabinets. I absolutely love how it looks, and am thinking about giving this treatment to some of the other cabinets in my collection.
It really is amazing stuff. The a-25s I just got had some candle wax drippings on the top and I thought I'd have to scrape it, but it came right off with the Feed n Wax applied with steel wool. I apply it with steel wool, scrubbing through the dead finish, leave it one, then polish it out with an old t-shirt. Many sad-case speakers have come out looking almost brand new.
Are you sure that was candle wax?
I'm just going to keep telling myself that's what it is.

The best way to have an understanding with the seller is to be standing there immediately with cash in hand. Any other way is risky. Time allows others to wiggle in on your understandings.:yes: I've even lost a deal when I turned on a receiver and the lights came on. The seller wanted time to reconsider the price because the lights came on!:drool: I didn't even ask her the new price for the Marantz 2285, I just walked.:yes: Brad

Buying off Craigslist can be frustrating sometimes. I had a shot at some decent Ohm's last week and the guy sold them right out from underneath me without giving me a chance to make an offer.

It's good and bad. I just don't want to see somebody scared off because of one bad CL deal. I've had things sold out from under me, I've had deals turn into an auction where the seller calls me and says the next guy in line offered more (gave up on an Ariston TT that would have still been a deal, just on principle because of this). But I've met really great people on CL. In fact, one of the guys I have met has become a good friend, and we sit around and drink and trade audio equipment. Last week, I ended up with speakers at the advertised price, and a free reel to reel and receiver to boot. CL is like the world...good and bad apples out there.
