Hi everyone, need some advise:)
I live in Norway and is thinking of buying my first Thorens, (its a 160 b mk2 model) from a guy just a couple og streets away.
But what’s your professional opinion of the price, condition, things to look out for, maybe things that need an upgrade and so on.
He...
Hello
I'm new here, but have been getting excited about music and hifi since childhood.
Last year I inherited some DIY built, P. Atkinson designed 'State Of The Art Loudspeakers', as featured in the HiFi News and Record Review April 1976.
I listen chiefly to digital files (FLAC), through a...
Hi y’all! I just got a McIntosh C26 and a Denon POA 1500 serviced and will be pairing them to a set of new Kef Q350’s. I haven’t used all three together yet and would love to see what you guys think about that setup. Would you expect them to mesh well and perform strongly? I listen to a ton of...

Has anyone ever tried bi-amping KEF 107/2 speakers with a kube 200? I know they are not a specified match, but with it being near impossible to find a 107/2 kube I'm interested in giving it a shot. Cheers and thanks for the advice.
Having in mind to recap the crossovers of my kef 107, opening the cabs to have a look at the woofers crossover, i had the surprise (surpise might be an understatement, the shock might be more appropriate) of finding an upgraded crossover with Solen capacitors.
The seller did mention that the...
Hello
I'm planning to add a woofer (maybe Kef b139) to a 140 liters Altec 605 ported cabinet. My question is more about acoustic problems and how the wofer will affect the Altec 605 sound and of course if there is any solution except building separate cabinets.
I know that I must use Lpads...
Hi,
Been doing research, can't find a definitive answer, but I think the answer is no, it does not use ferrofluid.
I pulled the tweeeter, removed the dome, "cleaned" the voicecoil gap looking for ferrofluid and saw no gunk or discoloration.
It also appears that the former on the voicecoil is...
Greetings everyone. I am the original owner of KEF 102 Reference speakers and Kube. My question is whether it would be OK, without any loss in fidelity or sound quality, to hook the Kube between the pre amp and power amp? I am not sure of the max voltages out/in of a Tape loop vs a Pre...
Hello all, Just purchased a pair of ESS Transtatic I's. They are the most amazing speakers I've ever heard. Someone replaced the original tweeters with some Peerless tweeters. It looks like they kept the Kef racetrack woofers and mid-ranges. There is no wall cord and some of the ones I have seen...
I'm currently driving my KEF's with the amp side of a Pioneer SX-1010 and using a Schiit Saga pre (because I want a remote). I love how it sounds but would like something with a little more power, to get the best out of them. Besides, it seems such a waste to use only half of a good receiver...
So after 2 years in Hong Kong I finally got around to buying a vintage system. Things are pricey here so it's not easy to see any deals and those that do appear are snatched up quickly. After endless browsing I jumped on a Sansui AU-317 as it was the WPC I wanted and it was in my area.
With it...
Today I got packages with Beovox 5702 from UK. Below few photo after unboxed:
It's early serial number.
Veneer on top with uncoloured spot and with few shallow scratches, but I thing that it is no problem for me. I will sand it and put new oil and beeswax. Grill cloth fabric will be...
I just acquired a set of KEF 104aB that I am reconditioning. New caps from falcon acoustics are in the mail. Got some fine sandpaper and boiled linseed oil for the tired cabinets. My only remaining challenge are the SP1039 drivers. The surrounds have become a little flat. I know this is common...
Hey all - question for a friend here. What would everyone recommend in terms of a smallish speaker for ceiling mounting in a gallery space? It has to be something available new, not vintage or second hand. Something relatively full sounding for a decent sized space (we're not expecting...
I am in the process of auditioning a pair of KEF 104 that have had the ab crossover upgrade. Super sounding speakers. I have already planned to upgrade the caps but now I’m wondering if I should invest at all in these speakers. As great at they sound, the woofers rubber surrounds are suffering...
Hello,
my listening room is 25x25. The “listening” portion is essentially 15x13 (my couch is about 13’ from where I sit. I’ve always used large, floor standing speakers because I kind of figured you needed that to fill out the room with sound.
Currently I use Monitor Audio RS6 Silvers with two...
I found both of these almost equal in cost. KEF Q700 or Q550
A pair of the KEF Q550 is $150 less or so.
I know the 550 is newer but not sure if advancements are worth it over the two.
My room is about 20'x16' with 8' ceilings.
Using for music/stereo
I heard the Q550 have more dynamic and clarity...
So I’m looking to buy a set of used KEF 103/4 speakers. I’ve read a lot about the foam on the bass drivers failing and causing the voice coil to rub and fail, and the ferro fluid drying out in the tweeters.
I can handle a basic refoam, and refilling the ferro fluid doesn’t seem too crazy; but...
Back in June I picked up a pair of KEF 104/2's. Driving them with a Rotel RX-1052 they sounded very good, but thought there was room for improvement (Ferrofluid replace, but not recapped yet). Bass seemed to be loose and ill defined. Last week I had some extra time and swapped in my Sansui...
Reading around about British speakers in the BBC lineage, I'm intrigued by their reputed presentation - as if offering a 'window' onto the original recording where things are depicted almost in miniature and image very precisely. I'd like to get an idea of this sound, as I think it would work...
I currently have a set of KEF Reference Model One and I love them. However, I came accross a pair of Reference Model 103/4 on a local listing website that need internal speaker refoam. The price is accordingly (cheap) so I was wondering if it could be a nice upgrade if I buy then refoam them?
So, I've decided to finally upgrade my current speakers. I've been thinking about the KEFs R900. My price range is anything $5k and under. I'm running a REGA Elix-R and REGA RP6 TT.
The room is reasonably small (over a 3 car garage) with hardwood floors. Anyone have experience with the...
Hi,
This is my first post here. I recently acquired a set of KEF C80 speakers. They sound wonderful except my right speakers midrange makes a crackling noise at certain frequencies regardless of volume. From my reading I think this is a B160 midrange. Is there a way to repair this speaker or...
