LOVED the B-25 that was painted Pink & sported wide, fat "Pimpwalls in the movie, "Catch-22"... Think it belonged to a General Dreedle in the movie.. Gawd that was a LOOOOONG time ago..

Some F-14 Tomcat photos I took onboard USS AMERICA and USS NIMITZ early 1980's. When they thundered(the noise was tremendous at full power) down the deck with both torches lit it would rattle your teeth and shake you down to your boots!

When I think of cool military planes I always gravitate to ww2 era. I was visiting in Scottsdale AZ back in the 80's and they had (or perhaps still have) a museum with quite a nice and rare collection from that war. One in particular was a F4U Coursair, but this one was a prototype (they only made 2 of them) in that it had the massive R 4360 (4300ci!) radial engine in it. The landing gear had to be extended just to accommodate the huge 4 bladed prop! I think those engines cranked out something like 3000 hp.. And parked nearby was a Focke Wulf FW 190 which could have easily fit under the wing of that Coursair!
They also had on display a cut in half Pratt and Whitney R4360 engine which showed the intricate cooling ducts that had to supply air to each of the 4 banks of 7 cylinders. Yeah that's 28 cylinders folks! What a machine...

A good friend kept these flying in Vietnam. He owns one, which is on loan to the museum housed in Hanger 1 at Lakehurst Naval Air Station.
He is restoring it to flight worthy appearance. We can't get on base for a photo right now, but I'll post one of his aircraft when it opens again.

The XB-70.. Oh, dear Lord, where do I start ? SO much of that bird was untested stuff, they built 2 examples, the latter, more advanced example crashed, killing everybody aboard... They were literally worth more than if they'd made 'em outa gold.. They were to replace then then still New B-52...Possibly even still, the most advanced aircraft that ever flew... The changing of technologies in 1964, doomed them, hard to conjecture what might have happened should they'd gone into production. Wags & smartasses said it looked like a banana towing an orange crate..

Millville,NJ 1990s? absolutely my favorite aircraft of all time! I've been fortunate enough to have crawled through these beauties and I just can't imagine how 10 guys in full flight gear would climb in these aircraft and fly to the targets with everything in europe trying to bring them down and if they made it back get up and do it again the next day

Jimmy Stewart made a good movie called Strategic Air Command. It has been a long time,but if i recall they spent a lot of time flying the B-36 in it. It was certainly an exotic hybrid aircraft.

Yeah, they did..B-36s were truly SOMETHING.. They had 6 of those R-corncob radials turnin', & 4 turbojets burnin'.. They even rigged up one that had a nuclear reactor that apparently WORKED in it. Then someone remembered that Airplanes CRASH, & maybe, just maybe having a functioning nuclear reactor in an aerial type Plane might not be a super splendid idea..

I absolutely love military aircraft but was never too partial to flying, my ears used to pop so bad nearly brought me to tears everytime but I had the opportunity to fly in a C5 Galaxy back in the 80s and considering it was loaded with my unit and our APC's I loved it. never felt so safe and you air force guys were awesome
