Dumbest thing you ever did?

Well, I'll keep the details to myself but I will never again speak the words 'Watch this!" while operating a motor vehicle.

Downed a fith of Rum without stopping. Jumped a non-suspension mountain bike off a two story building. Those are my top two. Both required medical attention. N8

Took a slightly hilly sharp corner at night on a narrow country road going 80mph...

...in a 1984 Pontiac Fiero.

Drank myself stupid and got in my car. Smashed into a parked car a few blocks away. Got out of the hospital a day later and have not had a drink since. That was in the winter of 1993. It was the worst thing I ever did, but had the best result and no one got hurt but me, thank GOD!

I don't tell many people this. But I know y'all won't tell anybody so here goes.

Back about 40 years ago when I was about 11 or 12, I was sitting on the toilet taking a crap. Well behind me on the back of the commode there was Dad's 3 head norelco. It was always plugged in and ready to use. I shouldn't have been on Dads toilet anyway.

Well being a boy 11 or 12 I was starting to get a little fuzz on the ole sackola. So being of the curious type of boy, I figured I would see what all this shaving stuff was about my dad did everyday. So I grabbed the fuzzy boyhood sack in one hand and the 3 head norelco in the other. I eased those twirlling stainless steel blades behind those floating heads up closer and closer to the future expansion of my family. Then at about 1/4 inch away. That norelco grabbed a couple of those fuzz stalks and pulled my most nerve laiden piece of self into those meat grinders and chopped off about 2 nice size wrinkles. You would have thought I'd been shot in the balls by a sniper. I learned alot in those few short seconds.

But like they say. When you're dumb. You have to be tuff.

Skied way off limits in the back bowls of Aspen when the Orange Sunshine was shining brightly. Ski patrol came after us, so of course we had to play catch me if you can. Chase ended right at cliff's edge and we were escorted out and banned. Came right back the next day though. Never noticed us. Probably not really the dumbest in my catalog, but it popped into my mind.

First story: I went to a buddies shop to help him pull the engine out of his Sandrail and I brought a open flame heater that you set on top of a propane tank.
I wasnt sure if the tank had and propane in it so I opened the valve and nothing came out so I fiqured it was empty,so at this point we just suffered through the cold and continued working about 30 minutes later I slipped and almost fell,I looked down and we were standing in a big puddle of High Octane Race Fuel eveidentaly he did not plug the fuel line just set it aside and we bumped it.
It would have been all over had I actually turned on the heater, the odd thing is that I knew that propane tanks have a safety valve and have to have something plugged into them so why did I check it that way?? Spooky
2nd story.
Showing a friend how to be safe around a Gun (9mm) and to never leave a bullet in the chamber,I ended up shooting out my kitchen window and putting a hole in his fence.
At least I did point it away and down.

Once lived on a down hill slope. The power line coming from the pole up the hill sloped down hill to the roof of the house. The driveway was somewhat elevated. Had my 14' aluminum boat sitting on the trailer at the end of the driveway. Decided I needed to move it around to the canal on the back side of the house. Since it is kind of long I stood the boat straight up in the air as I'm carrying it down the hill. Carrying the boat straight up like that makes it impossible to see what is in front of me as I'm walking forward. As I have seen quoted here a few times "I probably wouldn't be writing this if" the wife didn't yell out just before I got to that power line.

Close runner up. I should have listened when the wife told me not to go up on that rickety ladder. Let's just say that caused permanant injury that I am painfully reminded of everyday. A foot note to this: as I was at the gym one day someone noticed the way I was moving due to this injury. He asked me how it happened and when I explained the ladder incident, everyone in the locker room had a ladder injury. Something to keep in mind. I now have really really really good ladders and I don't go up past the second to last rung.

Oh and I never made any stupid car purchases or did anything irresponsible in a car or boat.

May not be the dumbest thing I ever did but something I doing and still remember it these many years later.

While in college I finally got a date with the girl of my dreams. Kathy and I went to the same high school and we were friends. During that time she was dating my best friend so she was always out of reach to me. We all three ended up at the same local college.

A little about her. Fun to be with, cute as a button, a body not to be beat, high school cheerleader and smart as hell. I was a close enough friend that I knew her family. Her father was a pro golfer and on the pro tour (if you followed golf in the 60's you would recognize his name). Her mother was a alcoholic and caused all kinds of problems for the family, especially Dad. Often causing him to have to cancel appearance at tour events.

I don't remember the circumstances but quite sometime after she broke up with my friend she and I had a date to go to one of my frat's parties. All I remember is I was elated and looking forward to it. Off we go to a night of dining, drinking, dancing, debauchery. These parties were legendary.

As the evening goes along I'm well on my way to being plastered. At some point I realized she wasn't drinking. I remember sitting at a table with her and trying to talk her into having a drink. Like the dumb ass I was that night I said something about didn't she want to have a drink and enjoy the buzz.

Her: "No, not really interested."

Me: "Why not, it's a good time? (blah blah blah)"

Her: "I've learned from my Mother I don't want to drink."

Me: "You want to go home?"

Her: "Yes."

Lost track of her after that.

I reserve the right to delete this post if seeing it here bothers me too much. :D

This one takes the cake. I'm still cringing.
