Favorite Bourbon

My brother who recently told me he can't have beer anymore has taken to drinking sippin' whiskey.
I was thinking of getting him a couple of those fancy Glencairn glasses with a bottle of single malt Scotch for his birthday.
I was considering the Ardbeg 10. Since I'm not made of $$$ does anyone have other affordable suggestions in a similar price range.
I haven't bought him a real gift since the Christmas after I got my first job, almost 4 decades ago so I thought this would be a nice surprise.
edit: nevermind, found a nice thread on Scotch whisky that answers my question

It's pretty low-brow, but I've lately been sipping on a cocktail of my own design that I'm calling the "Tucson Toddy". Let Google record that I am the first to coin the name.

Fill a pint glass half full of ice, add 2-2.5 Oz of a bourbon cheap enough to mix with, like Old Grand Dad, and top off with Arizona Green Tea. Enjoy.

In the near future, I'm going to try the Arizona clone recipe that's kicking around the internet and see if similar results can be managed.

I picked up a bottle of Jeremiah Weed just because it looked interesting.
I think I'm a sucker for that old fashioned advertising art.
I was thinking of doing the same with it. Tuscon Toddy, I'll have to remember that.

Tried Old Forester Straight Bourbon @ 86 proof for the first time this weekend, a very generous pour by the bartender, not bad, but I am not sure I would buy a bottle. a middle of the road bourbon, probably good for mixed drinks.

It appealed to my taste. I guess that is why there is more than one Bourbon, Amplifier, Phono Stage, speaker out there.

I'm going back for more soon.

Not technically a bourbon since it's made in VT, but reasonable smooth with a noticeable maple flavor, and at 90 proof, you get a nice burn

Last week my wife and I spent our 30th Anniversary in Portland Maine on a Lobster and Beer quest. One of the newer Breweries is Liquid Riot, which is also a Distillery. We sampled everything they made and several were really good, like the Bierschnapps, Old Port Oat Whiskey, Old Port Bourbon. We actually liked the Rye the best and brought home a bottle to sip.

Jim Beam or Evan Williams would do me fine for sippin' from a flask. Old Crow when broke. Buffalo Trace on a splurge.

Never had the 86 proof, but the Signature is a great bourbon for the price, and the taste, and at 100 proof.

Hey HYFI, the wife & I are heading up to Portland on Saturday for our annual crustacean killing tour. I will keep an eye out for local potables.

Hey RT, have a great time and enjoy the suds. Hope you have time to hit as many as you can.

Brand what used to be bountiful (12yr. aside) is now gone. Every now and then I'd run across a Weller product here on the NC/SC border. At the tail of the hipster/export bum rush it was usually Special Reserve or 107. But hey...a relative treat nonetheless. Moi grateful me was. Well, after almost a year now...the Weller drought here is official.
EVERYTHING Weller is completely off the grid. FUH :(

R.I.P. :angel::hug:

Sorry to hear that. Here in GJ you can almost always find Special Reserve, and OWA. Weller 12 I do not see that often.

Weller 12 & OWA has disappeared from the shelves around here along with Elmer T. Lee. Soon to be followed by Four Roses Single Barrel or something else I like. Plus Eagle Rare which was $29 a bottle has now been jacked up to $39 a bottle.
