Favorite Bourbon

Weller 12 & OWA has disappeared from the shelves around here along with Elmer T. Lee. Soon to be followed by Four Roses Single Barrel or something else I like. Plus Eagle Rare which was $29 a bottle has now been jacked up to $39 a bottle.
Funny you say that. Liked I said above, Weller no problem to find here in GJ. ETL is plenty, FR small batch and single barrel plenty. Seen Eagle Rare quite a bit as well. Lot's of things here in GJ, are more expensive than in UT, but I take that over the distribution **** going on in UT.

I dipped across the Ohio River today and stopped at D.E.P.'s in Fort Thomas, KY. It's like Candy Land compared to Ohio liquor stores.

I was looking for Very Old Barton Bottled In Bond, but apparently they have trouble keeping it in stock. I settled for a handle of 80 proof VOB and a fifth of Fighting Cock, neither of which are available in OH.

I tried the VOB over ice, and it's not bad at all - maybe a little smoother straight than the Old Grand Dad I've been using as a mixer and general-purpose whiskey. I'm still in disbelief that it cost less than $17 for 1.75L.

We also picked up a number of goodies at the Fort Thomas Community Yard Sale event, including a pair of white diecast Realistic Minimus 7 and a pair of Acoustic Research M4 (which, together, set us back $22). What a great day!

I didn't know that Minimus 7s were available in white.

And thanks for the recommendation for shopping in KY. I'm in Knoxville TN.

Yeah,no ETL around here either, been looking everytime I'm at the liquor store(s).

Been looking for a good long while too.

Sigh...

Weller (SR/OWA) comes & goes, but most times I can find it,Weller 12yo is a bit harder to find.

Yeah the Four Roses varieties in general seem to be in pretty good supply though.

Have you tried on-line?

Only Binny's and Spec's but both those places only seem to sell the "good stuff" like ETL in-store.

Nearest Binny's aint too far,but it's still a bit outta my way and I dont seem to go in that direction all that often...

Plus, sometimes that seems too easy an option to me,thrill of the hunt & all that you know.

FWIW

I saw that Woodford is $32 locally. Picked up the last bottle in the store the other day. Just checked online and it looks like they've been restocked. I know where I'll be heading after work.

I don't know enough French or European history to have a favorite.
People remember Marie Antoinette tho' she was Austrian.

Why is it that you can't get French toast served during the reign of terror at those "breakfast served anytime" places?

Picked these up today:

Hancock's President's Reserve Single Barrel (88.9 Proof)
Bulleit Frontier (10 Yr. Old) Small Batch (91.2 Proof)

Road-tripping through Indiana, I ran across two bottles of Very Old Barton Bottled In Bond for $15 each.

It's the best $15 bourbon I've ever had, and handily better than Old Grand Dad's $20 Bottled In Bond, but still doesn't compare to the mind-blowing value of a handle of 80 proof VOB for $18.

Wish I could find some VOBBIB around here. You have perked my interest.

Yesterday after some electrical work at a friend's house he brought out some Henry McKenna. That was smooth. One drink and I drove home in the right lane with the cruse on.

He said one day we would try the incredible pour. He showed me and I touched the bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 23. OOOOOoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

American spirits are getting more and more popular over here, part because the prices for scottish single malts are getting out of hand, but also because you've got some great stuff! Nowadays you can get a wide range of bourbon and rye, used to be pretty much JD and Wild Turkey. The last two I've had were Noah's Mill bourbon and a High West Double Rye, amazing stuff and definitely on my shopping list. Still got a boat load of scotch at home though, might take a while...
