For years been using some form of alternative starting with Netscape. The Mozilla and then Firefox. Most recently been trying Opera and Safari for Windows. Also, Lotus Notes Client as a built in web browser as well as my management system, Time and Chaos. Each has strengths and weaknesses. As I do not do much with then other than type in an e-mail address or click a bookmark I don't see much difference other than load times. Other than the security issue, I'd just use IE.

I am amazed that people can find 99billion plugins for firefox to be as safe as a safe BUT they cant find the one 512bit encryption method for IE??? Not to mention the encryption some sites already use??? Give me a break! no offence to the poster because I know hes just trying to help but IE isnt as bad as people make it out to be, ive used IE for as long as I can remember and firefox or any other browser aint worth the extra 30mb taking up space on my 120gb HD, im not a microsoft supporter I like microsoft but I hate things Like VISTA!! OMG I hate even saying that word now...
My point is if your smart enough to protect firefox than theres no reason you shouldnt be able to protect IE, plus I still use IE6 and its blazes through website like a butter knife through soft warm butter.
If you really want to get serious about protecting IE use ReversePSK microsoft themself couldnt hack that..

I like Vista better than XP after using it for about 9 months on my Toshiba 17" laptop along side of my other 17" Toshiba that has XP and my XP loaded desktop. I'd not retrofit Vista on the XP laptop though running the MS test program it says it will work. It is more stable and handles resources, especially releasing, better. Yeah, it does a few things rather oddly but nothing wrong. However, Office 2007 should be burnt at the stake. What a piece of trash from a user perspective.

FF for several years. I tried IE again recently when they started providing their idea of "tabbed browsing". What a total kludge.:thumbsdn:
I'd love to try Chrome, but unfortunately it doesn't support Hotmail, and that's how I access my MSN email account.

I have yet to find a website that doesn't render properly in FF.
One of my gripes with IE is the lack of support for standards that are not proprietary to Microsoft, like .png rendering...
I still run IE6 from 2001...no updates!... and I have NO problems with it!... go figure that one!...
I don't have the hacker problems...or anybody trying to take over my machine... Maybe its the updates that are causing all the problems to begin with....:scratch2:
As for AVG...I dont have SP2...so version 8.0 will not run... so I dumped it ...and still have had no problems.... (6 months now)... I guess I'm payin' close attention to the sites I go to ...or what I'm putting in the machine here...

But seriously, do you use your PC for online business like buying/selling or Internet banking? - I suggest you get updated and pretty soon and install some anti-virus software +firewall of some description.
In reality you may be soooo far out of date that the world, and its Internet fraudsters, has passed you by :sigh:

Nope!..I check my processor usage and the running processes constantly... the machine idles @ 80mbs..0% processor and only 17 running processes all but 1 are part of Windows. (I checked all the processes personally..)The other one is the task manager itself.
And you aint getting no spam E-mails from me...I know what goes on in my machine...I'm not just some moron that lets anything and everything get in by cliking 'YES' to everything that pops up on my screen. AND I also read ALL my licence agreements. If I don't like what they are trying to get past me ...down the road it goes.
No!...no banking on this machine...even if I did have all the updates ..and all the security junk...I still would not put that info on my machine..as for getting updated... nope! ...that aint gonna happen either...
I have absoulty no problems working the internet ..just the newer software(requires SP2 or newer)...which I don't want to use anyway..because its so full of junk that clogs up machines ..I stick with the older versions of most software because it dont run the machins so hard. I put SP2 on my machine once ...the processor was running @ 100%... amd memory usage was over 300mb..I only have 256 to work with....so to say ...the machine locked up..uninstalled SP2...everything was fine again.
It just works for me ..
I dont use a laptop...just a desktop and there is a router installed too...

I'm trying Chrome right now and it blasts through pages compared to IE. I think i might use it for awhile as i like it so far and has been easy to use. Not as much processes or resources running either, which is good on both of my two year old machines. I have FF installed also and it doesnt work as fast as this although i like it also. Chrome seems to be a nice alternative from the normal options we're used to. Its nice to swap around once in awhile instead of using the same ole same ole. I'll see how i like it after using it for a few days. I don't store anything so i take it that i'm safe.
