Good to know. I looked it up prior to your post and specs said Win 10 and up.
Edit looked in wrong spot previously. 7 is the oldest OS that will function. That really opens up old computers as an option.

I believe he meant that if you want to see how streaming works with your main hifi system - as you said - you could use the Chromebook and DAC to do it. Do one of the free trials for one of the "high resolution" services (CD quality or better).
 
Yes ,I would imagine it would be fabulous with my main system because even with the $20 dac and an old dvd player it sounds really good. For 20 bucks that fiio d3 sounded pretty good.
 
I would try to get one of the old laptops going. However I enjoy messing with computers. Could be stripped of everything except the bare essentials and whatever music service you choose.
 
Crazy Gnome ,if you were an hour a away I would be driving to your house so you could help me getting windows 10 on my old compaq.

If it has windows 7 or higher you are good. Just turn it on and uninstall and delete all unnecessary programs and files.

Are you willing to walk me through this? For instance ,I don't know even how to right click or left click on these . There is no mouse. Will this windows 7 keep working? I would rather you help with something that is going to last.

If you're still trying to work with the compaq presario CQ57 from the first page (this thread has meandered considerably), then it does have a TrackPad, and two mouse buttons on the front edge of the keyboard face.

I wonder what gets threads shut down other than breaking the rules. Because this has meandered quite a bit.
