People love music...

Or, maybe people should mind their own business and stop trying to tell others how to run their lives. I find stuff like this to be elitest and it makes a clear moral judgment. Its a we're so much smarter than everybody else kind of thing.

The project seems innocent on the surface, but its from this thinking that people want taxes on soda pop, and mandates on health care and smoking bans in public parks -- because they believe their thinking is superior and feel the need to force others into their view of how to live their life.

I'm sure not gonna argue the part about minding your own business.. god knows I can be offended by others perfume and it's rude to say something about it, but damned if i can smoke in my own air space even out doors any more...

BUT.. I think this does show that if you make things fun, people tend to have different attitudes about the physicalness of something...

Myself, I usually take the stairs, or walk up an escalator. I might be too lazy to purposely go work out, but I'm not so lazy that I'd rather save energy than time... I can think of things I would do that I normally don't if there was something that made the physical part of it more enjoyable...

When someone else's health care bills cause my insurance rates to rise (or if they're indigent end up being paid out of my taxes), then you're damned right their personal behavior is my problem.

oh man.. I sure didn't mean for this to become a political ordeal.. I was just pointing out some cool stairs and human nature to do things they normally wouldn't just because music was involved...

That was really cool. I'd take the stairs every day, I'd even look forward to it. I try anyway, but sometimes laziness wins.

Of course, another way would simply be to turn off the escalator.

Damn that looks like fun. I don't find it elitist. I think it's just a clever way to put a little fun into something mundane.

Think about all the poor stranded people at the bottom! :D

If it's less than 4 or 5 stories, I take the stairs too. I also park far way from whatever store I'm going into. We as biological machines are made to burn calories. Our lifestyle isn't keeping up. Every little bit helps keep things running good.

I try to take the stairs whenever possible, though most buildings around here are pretty low. Also, if I'm dragging a briefcase with 60lbs. of paper in it, I'm likely going to take the elevator just to make things a bit easier.

What if many mundane things in life were made fun and interactive? They say it's the little things in life, right? Maybe our quality of life would go up a bit. I guess this is why I like getting into the outdoors; all kinds of cool stuff going on at every turn.

I think it's a creative way of thinking outside of the box. No one is forced to take the stairs, but making it fun opens up people's perspectives and perhaps now they look at the stairs and instead of thinking "ugh" they may think "hey!". Nothing wrong with that!

...clutz that I am, I would probably break my neck trying to "step lively" to some hip tune

Geez! How about a Chill-Pill?

Looks like a way to have fun getting from here to there, not a mandate to "Exercise more or we will punish you" kind of thing.

I'm not against escalators, but there's one in a theater in Chicago that's about 5 stairs in length. I don't think it's for handicapped use, either (and wouldn't a ramp be cheaper?) It's really funny to watch who chooses this miniature escalator over the nearby stairs.

Now...switch to the opposite extreme...I spent some time in London last year, and their subway is so far underground that it's nuts. Sometimes the escalators weren't working...it was like climbing a mountain. ugh.

I don't see what is so elitist about offering people an alternative way of getting a little exercise. Nobody was putting a gun to their head and forcing them to use the stairs. They were just enticed to use the stairs and a have a little fun doing it. And I agree with the poster who said people who don't take care of their health makes everybodies' insurance premiums go up.
Sheesh man, did you have a bad day?

Some of those London tube stairways are indeed insane. I climbed a few of them for the hell of it...Of course, I've also sprinted up several Italian bell towers for no good reason. :lmao:

The staircase inside the Duomo in Florence is one of the more hair-raising climbs I've been on - that one I took slowly.

My wife and I walked all the way up to the top of the Washington Monument.
There were a lot of people waiting for the elevator and we didn't feel like waiting for it. It was a climb!

Top of the monument is a little too far of a climb for me, even if they were offering free sex at the top...
