This is now my #3. The Pioneer CT-s22 (I posted above) has gone to the circular file. I bought this Sansui D-X301iR on just a whim. A local seller had it on eBay and it was cheap. Got it home and set it up and I really like it. No, it's not 3 head but it has a very professional look and feel. Done a lot of playing on it. Going to try recording on it now. But so far I am really pleased.

Yeah that open reel system sets my heart side ways inside me just seeing it.
Found a Revox A77 Mk IV at an estate sale. Marked price was really low, and when I checked out discovered it was 50% off day 
Looked like it endured decades of garage storage when I got it. Lots of cleaning required. Replaced the four fire-prone safety caps before ever powering it up ("fire-prone safety cap" sounds like an oxymoron).
Transport works fine. Playback sounds excellent - better than the TEAC 4010SL I made the tape with.
Only issue is that the CH 1 meter pegs all the way to the right upon powering up and stays there. Swapped the two record boards but no change. Still need to see if it will record despite the meter issue. Nevertheless, it's nice to look at!

Here are my 2 Nakamichi LX-5 cassette decks. Both restored & fully functional. New belts, replaced bulbs, lubed, all electronics checked, failing electronics replaced & everything cleaned up. Best of all they sound fantastic. These are big bulky, heavy looking cassette decks but they're both built like tanks. It's cool is I have 2 Nakamichi LX-3's fully restored with new belts as well. One of my Nakamichi MR-2's could not be repaired. That sucked but I still have two fully restored working Nakamichi MR-2's. Ths old gray Werewolf did good.

i owned a LX-3 and LX-5 some 8 years or so ago. Great sounding AND looking decks!!

Here are two of my new Nakamichi LX-5's. I just had the belts and idler tires replaced and electronics updated. I love my LX-5's! I also included my LX-3. I have another LX-3 still in the shop that I am waiting for. Let me know what you all think. Thanks for being awesome everyone!
The Akai 4000DB on it's new "stand" and all the other gear I have that will run tape:
The Akai is currently rocking my copy of "Snakes and Arrows".
So there's open reel (Akai 4000DB), cassette (Pioneer CT-F750 and a Technics M228x) and 8 track (Superscope TDR-830 and the Wollensak 8075).
Quite happy with the choice of gear to listen to what I want, when I want and how I want.
That's pretty much "endgame" for me for tape. Which is not to say I'd turn my nose up at a cheap Revox A77 MKIII/IV Dolby or B77 MKIII/IV Dolby (like that's ever going to happen
).
There's just something about "Boston" rockin' on 8 track that sounds "right" to me....lol!

Arguably The best sounding 2 channel 8 track recorders ever indeed. Congrats enjoy. Best fidelity. Enjoy you got good taste!
Came to me as a right mess: An 8 track player I'd never thought I'd own
I was going to be happy with the TDR-830 (and it sounds wonderful for what it is), but then the Wolly showed up at a price I couldn't turn down, even if it was pretty beat up. I knew what it was when I bought it. IE: top end gear. Well, top end for 8 track.....

Personally, I wasn't enamored with it at first- silver chassis with champagne gold rimmed touch controls looked odd to me, but I've come to like the looks now... would still prefer black though...
