My bike's a 1985 Suzuki Katana 750. I first saw one in a Tamiya model catalog as a freshman in high school in '88 or so. It took until '99 to figure out that they weren't sold in the US, and to track one down in Canada, buy it and bring it back to Michigan.

I came out of riding retirement last year and took a 3 day trip with a buddy through Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming.

Wow, that's something you don't see everyday :) Katana's were cool back in the day

Hah, yeah. I get some interesting feedback on it. Most people don't seem to know what to think. My best guess is there's less than 10 of these bikes in the US. The guy in Canada that found it for me has the only other one I've seen in person.

The earlier ones are cool too, and I have one of those awaiting some minor restoration work.

Beautiful welding on the swingarm.:thmbsp:

That's actually my younger brother's work. When he was about 17 he just decided he was going to learn to weld. Within a few years, he was doing it as well as anyone.

That was the time when I got into motorcycles as an 18 year old :) Here I am with my 1982 GPz750 burning off the tire. This was around 1984. Great memories.

Great pics and story Brian. I've never seen a second gen. Katana.

BTW nice argyle and white sneakers in the Gpz photo classic!

Thanks! It's been quite a project. And it's one of only a couple things I own that I could never part with. The only other things are my original artwork (mostly my own, but also some drawings from others) and the little scale Clark forklift my dad build for me for Christmas when I was about 3.

How fun that would be for a 3 year old :)

Great thread....

I have WAY too many bikes for me to list. But one of my Favs is in my avatar. Curious to anyone who can guess what it is?

I will be duly impressed to the first one who guesses it right. I also will send a small motorcycle related gift to the winner!

When the correct guess is made... I will ask the person to email me with thier info and I will send the prize.

Best,
