The Pioneer "eXclusive" Gear Thread!

Hi to all eXclusive owners,
I’m new and very happy C5+M5 combo owner.
Do You know something about the polarity of those electronics?
When You look on the plug there is a “minus in circle” mark, and I don’t know where it have to go, hot or neutral?
Maybe someone know or have the original owner manual of those?

hi i i am a new member and live in sweden
and loves Pioneer Exclusive has P-3, C-10, and M-5
and a broken C-3a needs service manual someone who knows
or have any idea Best Regards hifibjorn

Hello,
I'm sorry for my noob question. How are the sound of these speakers compared to modern speakers like Devore O96, Harbeth 40.1, Avantgarde Uno....? I see in Vietnam there is a club of people buying Tad drivers and design their own crossover and cabinets. Some of them look very similar to 2402 twin.

Do you think we can achieve a 'good' sound from DIY with TAD drivers?

Thank you.
Huy

Hello, I just joined this awesome forum. I have been reading the tread for a few weeks now and I’m learning a lot about the Exclusive models from Pioneer. I recently purchased the C3 preamp. I wanted to purchase the M4 from the previous owner which he had both the pre-and-power, but the noise from the two fans were quite loud. Does anyone have a problem with the fan noise from the M4 power ? I know that there are two fans under the amp and on this one, there are two at the back? I first thought that it may have been modified because I haven’t seen any with fans at the rear of the amp only below it. I really want to purchase the amp but is there a way to reduce the fan noise? Also, the fans start spinning about 3-5 minutes after the amp has turned on and it keeps spinning even after the amp is off. The fans go off after a few minutes the amp has turned off, but the noise that it creates is pretty loud. I don’t know how anyone can use the amp in a quiet environment. The owner also told me that he disconnected the wires of the two fans under the amp and just runs the two at rear. Has anyone seen the M4 amps with four fans? Two below and two at the rear?

I have an M4a. It just has the fans under the unit. They are so quiet I have to look under it to see if they are running. The amp does run real hot. At least mine does. I wonder if that is why they added the rear fans? You might be able to get quieter fans? All those computer type fans are pretty quiet. It might be the picture but the left fan almost looks to have a wire in the way of the blades.

The two fans on the rear were loosen to be replaced, told by the owner. He told me that the rear fans now have been replaced with computer type fans, an improvement to the fans in the picture, but still made some noise. He told me that he disconnected the two fans below the amp and that he just runs the two at the rear. He said that the fans if on all at the same time made too much noise so he decided to disconnect the ones below.
[QUESTION] 1. Does the M4a have a top metal panel? Or is it an opened top with vented wooden case? 2. Do the fans run constantly when the amp is turned on? Or when the amp heats up? I’m contemplating if I should just buy it and take the amp to a technician to get the fan speed or what needs to be done sorted out.

Hi,
I own a few of the M4 exvlusive amps.
No noise at all from the bottom fans.
Yes there is a vented metal bonnet under the wood case. Top has vents .
Acabler

Thank you for the info! Does your M4 have fans at the rear? I find it strange that their are fans also at the rear. Most likely modified?

Hi
Only on the bottom on all of the 4 units that I own..
They do get pretty warm if anything is placed on top.
Might be why they added to on the back plate.

When working properly it is a very nice amp. The rear fans and holes are not original. Not sure what you are paying but the rough cut holes in the rear might lower its value considerably?

I live in southern Indiana and have a couple of the M4 units Id sell if interested.
One is nice... one is missing the wood bonnet and fans.
Been sitting unused the last 3 years.
The one without the bonnet could be used as parts to fix the one with fan holes in the rear shell if you are set on getting it.
I have over 100 pieces of Pioneer gear Spec Series 20 and exclusive.
Have lots of unused items in storage.
Let me know...

I’m assuming the previous owner added them earlier on as the current owner thinks it is originally as it is to have two at the rear and under the amp. Strange why there are four fans on the amp. The fans don’t go off not until the amp has cooled even after the power is turned-off.

I too don’t think the fans at the rear is original too. The holes look very convincing, must have had an expert drilled it. I paid around $700 for the C3 and the owner asked another $700 for the M4 amp. The C3 is solid but the M4 was too noisy. I’m still contemplating if I should make an offer for the M4 and just get it repaired from a technician. I think there might be an issue with voltage for the fans under the amp.

Hi,

I think it would be a good deal at 700. Units are selling for 4 or 5 times that online from Japan.
The units are very hard to get worked on here in the USA as no one has the service manuals or schematics..
HiFiDo in Japan offers repairs online... but the shipping is equivalent to a round trip airfare to Tokyo.
Long ago I tried my first C3 with my spec amps and there is no comparison to the sound of an exclusive amp paired with it.
M4s and M4A's sound simalar but different.
M5's sound very goood.
M10 seems to be the best to me.

I have paired the C3 preamp with my Pioneer M22 & 25 and it sounds great with the amps. I’ll post some pics later. I noticed that the Exclusive series are quite in demand. Do you know what the differences are between the M4 to the M4a? Is there a noticeable sonic difference between them? I currently live in Seoul, South Korea. There’s a lot of vintage Japanese amps sold in the used-market. Prices seem quite reasonable compare to eBay or Audiogon. There’s one Pioneer M4a listed at around $1700. I’ve seen the mono M5 amps once with the C5 preamp selling for about 4 grand here but never the M10. I’ll keep an eye on the M10s. I’m planning to pick up the M4s this weekend. Hoping I don’t change my mind~

Hi

The M4 and M4a's close but the M4a has a lot more ambiance. I beleive the difference in in the two are internal electronic components used.
I use yahoo .jp auctions to purchase things Buyee.JP is the service for allowing bids there.
M5 and m5a amps are similar big difference is the m5a's have balanced inputs like the c7 preamp has outputs for.
The C10/m10 were the last of the series and were not to many produced.
The M10 amp sounds wonderful and in my opinion better than all others I own.
Not had opportunity to listen to any M8's. or a C7 yet. Hope to before my time on this earth expires.
The fans on my units are inaudible.
I have owned both the M22 and M25 but only used a c21 preamp then.
