Who's listening to FM Tonight? What tuner?

Just finished listening to Piano Jazz on KXJZ. "New" Kenwood KT-880D -> Kenwood Supreme 600 -> AR91's.

This BPC-looking Kenny tuna sounds awfully good, and the signal is not affected by the HD channels on this station (or any other). Really a good pickup; just wish it wasn't so darned fugly...

WRTI jazz on the MR80 (full-house rework by Terry). Think this has become my favorite tuner. When the reception is good it goes from bottom to top better than the others.

got a message from Rebecca at GeorgeMeyerAV tonight...."Regarding your MR 78, we ordered a some transistors, capacitors and a relay. We just waiting for them to come in."

it's my first hi-end tuner, the wait is killing me.

KXJZ's Excellence In Jazz on yesterday's Pioneer SX-780 -> Polk Monitor 7's score. :music: Decent tuner in this, and the speakers are pretty darn good sounding.

Mozart on NY's WQXR 105.9....I have to have the antenna hanging from the wall perpendicular to the floor to get good signal strength.

Luxman T-110 doing the honors!

buy this one, to hold you over:
(EDIT) EBAY LINK REMOVED BY MOD, VIOLATES FORUM RULES (EDIT)

not only will it easily surpass the mr78 sonically, it won't be too far off reception-wise, either. and, even including shipping costs, it likely will still be a lot less expensive than yust the repair costs of your mr78. :music:

me, i am supposed to be receiving my rotel rht-10 back from refurb and mods this friday; this should be good - it sounded great before i sent it out, and the tech said it was way out of alignment; he said it would have sounded a lot better than before, even w/o any mods. :D

Good luck with that. There are only 3-4 folks in NA that can do (have the knowledge and experience) what needs to be done with an MR78 and, hopefully, you've found a new one.

new favorite station

after hearing this station (KISL 88.7 Avalon, Catalina Island) fade in and out periodically on my sony xdr-f1hd tuner and listening to this station on line thru a squeeze box touch I decided to get a better antenna so today I went up on my roof (1 story on a 10' mast) and installed a weingard hd-6055 and pointed it about 170 degrees towards Catalina from where I live on a hill 130' asl in Santa Monica on the main land about 50 miles away over the ocean. Even with the weingard and sony I'm not getting perfect reception - it seems to come and go in and out from almost unlistenable 0 bars to 2 bars. But in my opinion this is the best community radio station in southern california. At night it seems to come in better

You might ask someone to watch the strength meter for you while you rotate the antenna. Where you think you are pointing for the best signal and where it actually is are often two different directions.

200 watt station at 50 miles. It's not going to happen, maybe at night, maybe once in a while when the conditions are just right. I have difficulty with a 3000 watt station at 50 miles.

reception was 3 bars on the sony this AM and also when I got home from work. It was cloudy - typical marine layer - wonder if that has anything to do with it. I can even get the station at the 3 scale on my sansui TU-717 and on my sansui 7000 though a little staticy, the sony is the best -- very clean sounding. Ever since the other college station I have been listening to - KCSN changed their weekday format to very commercial sounding - what they call AAA format (their sunday shows are still good) I'm having to search farther for quality community radio.

Jazz on WICR HD1 (University Of Indianapolis) via the Sony HD tuner, sounds amazing! Waiting for Mrs Spideyjack to get ready so we go have her birthday dinner.

Listening to The Thistle and Shamrock on local Classical station KXPR, on a pretty little Sansui G-3000 that I picked up at the GW. Had a dead channel, blowing fuses - had to replace the output transistors on one channel, and use a LOT of Deoxit to get this sounding pretty sweet. Still has a power switch issue, very noisy and dial lights blinking at power-on for a few secs. Not looking forward to getting the switch out to clean - not gonna be easy...

Fiona Ritchie met her once a long time ago in Lexington Ky. the wife was with me at the time so couldn't really talk to her if you know what I mean....

Listening last night in London UK to the "Proms" on BBC Radio 3. a live broadcast on a Leak Through Line II valve tuner feeding an EAR valve decoder. BBC Radio 3 still broadcasts at full bandwidth and no compression and my signal is clean and so strong I have to attenuate it or the front end overloads. It really shows how good a valve tuner can be! The BBC do a great job with radio 3 in DAB but direct compairing between DAB and FM analogue shows up DABs limitations.

I envy you, being able to hear the Proms like that.

What have you liked best?
