I have a set of early A/D/S L710s. Cloth grills, square corners, no fuses on backs, screw terminals. They have foam surrounds and look to have been refoamed pretty recently.
One speaker sounds amazing just as it should. The other seems to be lacking bass. The woofers are both putting out sound...
Hi all,
I have a pair of KLH 363's that I picked up from a thrift store for a song and they're, overall, in great shape. I've ordered the solvent sealant, treated the surrounds on the woofers, degunked the vinyl veneer, and now it's time for me to tackle rebuilding the crossovers.
These are...
Replacing woofers on my speakers soon. I was hoping to bypass the cheap tweeters in them as the Dayton Audio full range drivers I have in mind have a frequency response from 40Hz to 25,000Hz. Is it possible for me to simply delete the crossover and just wire the driver directly to the speaker...
Hi there, I am new to the DIY stuff, but I'd like to save money this time around. I have a pair of Acoustic Profiles PSL 8.4 speakers, which I have just blown the woofers out of with, you guessed it, Telarc's 1978 recording of Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture.
Turns out these had very cheap 8...
Hi guys,
I was gifted a pair of decent Imperal 7G's, and after refoaming I use them in my main set-up.
Most forums tell me recapping the crossovers will improve the sound of these vintage speakers ( to an extent).
So when I went to see what kind of caps I'd need, I came upon the following:
I...
Hi! I think it's time to replace the caps on my DLK 4 speakers. They're 41 yrs old, and I'm sure these are original. I took some pics, and was able to identify 3 caps:
50uF/200V
10uF/200V
4uF/200V
As you can see in the pics, these are glued onto a board which is glued inside the cabinet. A pro...
hello
I would like to replace the capacitors in my vintage sansui SP-L100 speakers, Im assuming these old capacitors can't be working to good after all this time. I have never replaced a capacitor before plus I can't seem to find a replacement kit on eBay since these speakers seem to be really...
Hi everyone, I'm new to forum. I own a Pioneer SA 6500II and a pair of Advent 3 speakers that my father bought in the early 80s. I really like how both sound and have decided to restore both.
I have ordered replacement polypropylene caps for the advent's crossovers but I'm not sure whether I...
Case 1:
I have a set of 2 way speakers (PSB Image 2B) that I want to upgrade capacitors in. The 3rd order XOvers have a 1.5 uF, 8.0 uF and a 12 uF cap. They are all 10% tolerance caps.
It's easy to match the 1.5 and 12 uF with identical capacitance caps within my price range for this project...
I just got a pair of KLH model thirty-one and they sound great. One of the tweeters was having some issues but it started working. I've decided to re-cap this 40+ year old set, but when I opened it up the only capacitors I could locate were the 4uf paper caps connected to the tweeters.
Does...
Hey y'all, I want to know what is missing from this crossover in my C56 cabinets?
Someone pulled the "potato masher" horns out years ago and probably something in the XO as well?
There is currently a good shape LE12C coaxial JBL woofer in the cabinet and I put in a Fountek ribbon "horn" tweeter...
I just recapped one of my Tannoy Gold crossovers with Sonicap Gen 1's. Immediately it sounded great, noticeably clearer and better- but I am bothered by a bit of static here and there, especially in musical passages with prominent bass.
Is this static a symptom of a not-yet-broken-in cap, or...
Boy oh boy was this far more of a project than I had anticipated! I had to add small spacers between the crossover and terminal plate to allow more room for the nut and washer to tighten against the soldering washer. All in all I’m super pleased. The original binding post screws had a ton of...
HELP!!
I have a Boston Acoustics T1000 crossover but I do not know how to wire it to the drivers or to the input from the driving amplifier. (I also have all the drivers)
This late 1980's 3-way speaker system has two 8 inch woofers, a 6.5 inch mid and 1 inch dome tweeter. Obviously they all...
I just scored a pair of Altec Boleros. They are the 890A model, with the 3000-series horn and the 10" 406A driver. The drivers are in great shape; the cabinets are okay; and one grill cloth is ripped.
Interestingly, the big difference between the 406A drivers and the later 406Z's that...
As the title sais, i am looking for the circuit diagram of the ES200 crossover (improved version), or even a picture of the inside. (Sansui N200-03 it sais on the bottom)
It seems that the crossovers in my speakers were busted (years ago) and I am certainly missing one capacitor (in both...
Hi all
I need some recommendation of a good active crossover, 2 or 3 way, high sound quality, low noise unit.
I found the rather vintage Pioneer SF-850, but not much else.
Also could use a preamp/crossover combination
What are the options here ?
Thanks
KO
Greetings everyone. I'm a longtime reader, but just posting today for the first time. I recently acquired a pair of HPM-60's. According to the date codes, one is from 1978 and the other is from 1979 (which would make them the later, "Mark II" versions). The mid range and tweeter have white...
My step-dad recently passed away from a short but hard fought battle with cancer and while going through some of his things I came across his old hifi system. I brought it home and wanted to test everything out. As my mom had never seen any of it, I knew that nothing had been used it at least 21...
Hi,
I recently bought a pair of Advent loudspeakers, circa 1975.
They sound good, but the high frequency switch at the back of the speaker seems to make little or to my ears no difference when switched between its three settings.
The caps (revision 2 crossover, 16uf and 8uf) seem to be the...
Hello everyone,
The conjuncture and poor built of vintage KEF cabinets lead me to owning quite a few KEF drivers:
- 2 pairs of T27 SP1032 tweeters (one matched)
- 1 pair of B110 SP1003 mid-woofers
- 1 pair of B200 SP1039 mid-woofers
- 2 pairs of B139 SP1044 woofers
- 1 pair of B139 SP1042...
Hi! I have acquired a pair of B&O Beovox 5700 in very good condition. They have the same high and mid as the venerable Celestion Ditton 66 but a different woofer and passive radiator (10" rather than 12").
Replacement, even newly designed, Ditton 66 crossovers are available. What does anyone...
I'll soon be the proud new owner my first pair of Maggies, thanks to @hjames, and I'd like to understand two things as I await their arrival:
1. What are the best options for a subwoofer to handle the low end for these particular Magnepans? I've found some chat about Velodyne ULD and DD and...
Hi!
I need help. I want to upgrade my dynaco a25xl crossover parts, but I find difficult to choose right coil. As I have understand it must be 0.5 mH? Are there any other parameters that are also importand? https://www.hificollective.co.uk/catalog/-c-61_174.html there are so many...
I am pretty new to this but am planning on building a set of vintage JBL C35 bass reflex speaker cabinets but will be using newer JBL Components. Specifically, JBL 2226H 15" woofers, JBL 2426H/J HF compression drivers with JBL 2370A horns and JBL 3120A crossovers, crossing over at 1250 Hz . I...
