Favorite Bourbon

My "Mom & Pop" liquor store finally got this in. The owner was supposed to get it in the fall but it didn't happen. Mistake maybe?

Lucky me on the 1910.

I live about 1.5 hours South of Kentucky, Knoxville TN. 1910 just hit the shelves about 4 weeks ago. I ran all over town to find it. The double oaked appealed to me. You will be rewarded.

Thanks!

That sounds like a pretty good price on a single barrel. I'll need to keep an eye out.

Santa brought me this 3-bottle set "Generations of Proof".

And I ran off the rails grabbing a bottle of Old Forester 1920.

I didn't want to have anything too heavy last night so I had a bourbon and soda. Woodford Reserve & Schweppes Orange Seltzer with a twist. Very happy with the combo, the orange seltzer played well with the burnt orange notes in the bourbon. Might have to become my new Sunday night libation.

Brought this bottle 37yrs ago at one of the liquor outlets near the Kentucky border, on our way to Florida for our honeymoon. Used to break it out to share a shot with my dad at Xmas. Now I have a sip on our anniversary. It won't last too many more years though.
Came in a gold-veined bottle and a spiffy red velvet bagl

Note the price sticker on the label $13.90
Still has the original hangtag and paper tax stamp.

Believe it or not you could probably sell the "Hang Tag & Red Velvet Bag" on Ebay! Heck someone would buy the empty bottle as well. Especially given its age. I am quite serious.

I believe it. The Fishwife found an unopened bottle on a liquor trade site that was listed for $3500.

They use to offer the red bag and bottles at Christmas time IIRC. I still have a few around.
Could also get your name put on the bottle ahead of time.

This is back when there would be dust on the bottles at the store.

Jimbofish: Your kept the bourbon from your honeymoon for the last 37 years.

That's just down right cool. Congrats for hanging on to it all these years- she must be worth it too! You kept them both for 37 years...

I had a moment of bourbon insanity Monday night. I stopped on a whim at the local liq store. They had just put a case (6) of Eagle Rare on the shelf. I said box it back up. 10% discount to boot. All the other stores around here have it on allocation or call their freinds when it comes in. A very tiny part of me felt like a gutten for buying it all but I was able to get it over it about the time I poured a glass when I got home. My son says Elmer T Lee is much much better and I tell hime to call me when he finds it on the shelf.

Around this neck of the woods Elmer T is a lot harder to find on the shelf than Eagle Rare, which itself isn't always around.

I've had Elmer T on a number of occasions and it's pretty good but I don't know that I absolutely prefer it to ER. That said, most of the ER I've managed to get has been barrel select so it's (IMO) usually a 1/2 to 1 notch above the standard ER bottling.

Well I struck out on the VA ABC Pappy Van Winkle lottery.... I signed up for the 10, 12, 15 and 23 drawings with no luck... Oh well. Back to sipping Buffalo and Eagle Rare...throw me in the briar patch :)

If I won a bottle of Pappy I'm not so sure I wouldn't sell it instead of drink it.

Or, is no resale a stipulation of the lottery?
