Killed off my bottle of Weller Special Reserve over the weekend. Such a sad occasion as Weller is well near impossible to come across in the area.![]()
Those prices are great. Not only has it disappeared from the shelves in the NYC area, but the only bottles I have seen in the last 5 years were at astronomical prices. The perception of Weller as "Poor Man's Pappy" has fed into the frenzy. There are other worthy bourbons to drink, I'll get over it.Yeah, sorta weird how that works. Last week I was in roughly the opposite corner of the country and out of two liquor stores I visited I could have wheeled out a shopping cart full from each one. 750s were $20, 1.75s were $35.

A wise precaution in these uncertain times.I'm a hoarder now. A few rumors going round that our local ABC stores could possibly close around here. Went yesterday and bought 5, 5ths of Jim Beam. It takes me a month to drink 1 bottle. May go get another 5 bottles. If the stores do shut down, I will have them for $40 a 5th.
Sorry. I didn't word that carefully. I was out at my favorite cigar bar where I enjoyed the BH. The Eagle Rare is what I'm drinking at home.I'm confused. That isn't Basil Hayden and it is not rye. Maybe you posted the wrong picture?
Yes, different animals altogether. I think my next bottle will be the BH rye. One day I'll get back to scotch, but the best bourbons and ryes are far cheaper and a lot of fun to work through.Indeed. Certainly due for another bottle of Eagle Rare, but it's sure way different than Basil rye.
For the bourbon lovers in greater DC/VA/MD area this is an opportunity not to pass up:
