Favorite Bourbon

Can't say it's a favorite, but really good. Working on a bottle of this from Vermont

To put you in the spot, just how is the Pappy?

I have no doubt it's a very fine product, but does it actually live up to all the megahype and mystique surrounding it?

It is no doubt good. However, for the money I would take Four Roses single barrel, Blanton’s, Elmer T Lee or Eagle Rare any day.

I'm a hoarder now. A few rumors going round that our local ABC stores could possibly close around here. Went yesterday and bought 5, 5ths of Jim Beam. It takes me a month to drink 1 bottle. May go get another 5 bottles. If the stores do shut down, I will have them for $40 a 5th.
Got in trouble over this. My GF wanted to know why I didn't cover her. I had no good answer. So I went back and got her 3 bottles of Absolut. She drinks vodka, not bourbon.

There is talk or may be already of delivery from the big liquor stores in KY. I got a email last week have since deleted from them. I'm not to worried pretty much set. Not so much, my wife thought she had more wine set back. To tell the truth we both have been drinking less the last week or so. Plenty of reasons to, just not feeling the urge.

I'm still getting weekly notices of sales from 4 local liquor stores. A week or two back I read this sentence:

"Drinking alcohol is not a safe substitute for cleaning supplies. "

Now on first reading of just that sentence it seems to say don't drink liquor instead of cleaning.

It is clearer with the rest of the text:

"Diluting high proof alcohol for use in cleaning can be dangerous.

Please use appropriate, approved sanitization products to keep clean."

After all the bourbons I've tried, I think I've concluded that Wild Turkey 101 is simply the best there is for the money, bar none The rye and oak influence, along with the higher ABV make this a killer deal for a quality whiskey for those desiring a robust flavor. If money is no object, I'm very fond of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel (not the Small Batch), though it's ~$50.

When I broach the 100 proof mark, Four Roses single barrel is my pour.

I like FRSB too, though it is quite different in style from WT101. I find it very refined and almost floral, compared to WT101 which is robust and oaky. As time goes by, I find myself liking more robust, flavorful whiskies. That probably accounts for me now preferring Islay (and other island) single malts over the Speysides and Highlands I use to prefer.
