Favorite Bourbon

Why limit yourself to one or the other. To me, part of the pleasure of multiple choices is doing comparisons/contrasts.

Going to the booze store tomorrow. Makers Mark will be there doing a tasting. Plus they are doing some kind of custom label thing with a signing. Gonna be from 4 to 7. Hell I don't know. I'll find out then.

Well just got back from the taste testing. They had different kinds of Makers. You could try a shot of them all. Got me this for X-Mas. Some woman was writing whatever on this peel off label you can put on the bottle. Hell!...I can write better than that. They even had cute little things for sell. Like sweaters to go on your bottle. I like mine ice cold......thank you.
I thought the regular Makers was the best. The strong stuff burnt some.

If you got into the cask strength stuff, yeah, it's got some heat. The Maker's cask strength is usually 110 proof, give or take.

Don't recall for sure but I think my bottle of Stagg Jr is around 130 proof.

Besides Elmer T Lee, my favorite single barrel !
I wish Santa would drop off some Ol’ Elmer T to me, I have not seen a bottle on any shelf at ANY price in the NYC area in years. I finally did see a 12 year old Weller in a liquor store last week, I think they were asking $285! :dunno: WTF???

During my pre-Christmas stop at CashWise Liquors I spied something unusual (at least to me)..."Old Tub" Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Straight is the word...no charcoal filtering...just a screen to catch any bits of the barrel before bottling. A product of the folks at Jim Beam, it's bottled in bond and I succumbed to temptation. A strong snort for sure...it needs a bit of time on the ice to smooth things out a bit. Told my wife "It's cowboy whiskey!" BTW, at the same stop, I picked a bottle of Suntory Japanese vodka for my vodka-drinkin' best friend. Distilled from rice as you would assume. Look forward to his opinion.

Ive been on a Bourbon buying binge lately. Current favorite is Elijah Craig 18yr. On a budget the 80 proof offering from Penelope is fantastic but not widely distributed yet. Woodenville is surprisingly good as well. Trying out some Rye offerings as well.
