Favorite Bourbon

Booker's, Bakers, Woodford Reserve, Knob Creek, Basil Hayden's, Blanton's, W.L. Weller,
Buffalo Trace, 1792, Eagles Rare. I have had all of these but for the money you can't beat Eagles Rare.

I keep hearing this, and I'm going to have to try it. Buffalo Trace too, just because of the name. And Bulleit too.

Picked up a bottle of 1792 on a friend's recommendation, nice, but I prefer the Woodford as my "house' bourbon. I'll try the Eagle's Rare next and I still have my eye out for anything from the Van Winkle clan.

I got a 375 ml bottle of Eagle Rare 10 year old as a gift today- I'll report impressions when I crack into it.

I've enjoyed 10 yr old Eagle Rare for about 3 yrs. now. A nice sweet entrance and It doesn't have a heavy corn taste in the mid pallet, the finish seems to have a very pleasent oakiness and a medium duration. If you can find it for 20-25 $ for a 750 ltr bottle...buy it! Don't forget to try it neat slightly warm (hold the glass in your hands for warmth) to tame the alcohol bite it also helps enhance the sweetness. Or add a couple of drops of bottled water to 'open' the flavor if you don't prefer the heaviness of straight bourbon.

Cheers

Did someone say "BOURBON?"

I can't believe I missed this thread so far.

I used to be a scotch fan but the prices are getting WAY out of hand, besides I'd rather support our economy. The picks are of my little bourbon collection (which needs a little replenishing...hic), and I thought collecting audio was an expensive hobby.
I drink all of my bourbons and scotches 'neat' in a corresponding Riedel glass. Yes, the glassware does make a difference.

Some of the better:
21 yr Rittenhouse Rye
20 yr Pappy Van Winkle
20 yr Black Maple Hill
Woodford Reserve Master Collection
18 yr Sazarac Rye
Thomas Handy Rye (barrel proof 127.5)
William Larue Weller (barrel proof 121.9)
George Stagg (barrel proof 141.2) this one will warm your ears up.

Please drink responsibly! :thmbsp:

Keep an eye for any Van Winkle products, but the 12 year lot B is a killer, and only runs just under 50 bucks. In some ways I like it better than the bottles of their 20 yr family reserve. Just passed on 4 bottles of lot B while going through southern Illinois.

As far as Eagle Rare is concerned, the 10 yr single barrel is a great under 30 dollar bourbon, but to spice things up, try the 17 yr Eagle Rare, its a taste treat, right under 60 bucks.

. . . but I prefer the Woodford as my "house' bourbon. . . . .

Ok, if you have Woodford as your "House Bourbon" we are in different tax brackets. Way, Way different.

:yikes:...:yikes:

Same to you Russell. Or...... Maybe I am just a cheap mother. (I am ! ! !)

LOL! By "House Bourbon" I meant the one I like to drink, and that I keep on hand, poor choice of words. I don't get a lot of calls for whiskeys and such as we tend to do most of our entertaining over the summer and as such mostly Vodka, Gin and Rum for our guests. We don't have too many visitors once summer ends and the leaves start to fall.

I have never had the Lot B, but it is on my to do list. The 20 year Pappy's is the finest bourbon I have ever had.

OK ... anyone else keep there Bourbon in the freezer ?

Trust me my 107* 10yr old will not freeze !

I did for about a decade to keep it from melting the ice. But I think it tastes better at room temperature.

Or like a retent said, "I've enjoyed 10 yr old Eagle Rare for about 3 yrs. now. That sounds like the toast in Highlander. (The first one!)

If you notice, when you attempt to pick a different color, it defaults to black.

When you click and drag to highlight the text you wish to change, you will see that the color is contained inside quotes inside the opening HTML code. It looks like "black". If you simply change the word black to the color you want, it should work just fine.

Today's report. I tried some of the Nob Creek 9 year old stuff after they said it wouldn't be available. It paid for the free T-Shirt. But it was good! ! Very nice, smooth and mellow. I like it. But can't afford it very often.

My favorite is Old Granddad 114. Nothing special, but its what I enjoy when I'm listening to tunes.

The 20 is fine, and I dont mean to take away from it. The Lot B is also very fine, a little more candy and just as impressive. Quite a bit less too. The 23 yr old, well I just dont buy. I've tasted it, and it was fine no doubt, but the law of diminishing returns weighs heavily here, and the price increase is steep with the 23 yr running just over 200.00.

What is lot B? I mean, it sounds like the second down the line. That can't be right.

Nice table in your avatar.

BOURBON did you say BOURBON? Well if you come to my house the house Bourbon is Makers Mark. Then we go to Eagle Rare, Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve,Noahs Reserve,Early Times Special Reserve 1989, Old Pappy Van Winkle 20yr old & 23yr old. Then for special occassions I like Gold Maple Hill and Black Maple Hill. Once in a while an Evan Williams of 23yrs slips in there as well. On occassion Hancocks Reserve slips in there too. :D:thmbsp: Can you tell I like BOURBON?
