Favorite Bourbon

If you like the EC12, try some Evan Williams Single Barrel for a few bucks more. Same distillery and mashbill, better result IMHO.

If you like a woody flavor, try the Buffalo Trace. It is noticeably drier than either the EC12 or the EWSB, but with a nice woody, spicy bite.

I tried the EW Single Barrel. It's sweeter & more dignified than EC12, but I wouldn't say it's better. I like them both. The EWSB tastes like a more adult version of George Dickel 12, which I also like.

Bourbon Custard from Amy's Ice Creams is a new fav of mine.

Today's sipping EC 12. I still have a 1/3 of a 750ml bottle after this long. Nice but I still prefer the more expensive Woodford Reserve. That is hard to afford on my retirement.

Mellow stuff today. I'm listening to Johnny Smith and Stan Getz, Moonlight In Vermont. A 1952 soft Jazz LP. I'm sipping more of the EC 12.

Should there be a thread for music styles and favorite adult beverage? Does anyone still read the other posts or just post the drink of the day? Sorry, being a crusty old fart there.

Just for grins, I bought a bottle of Evan Williams Black Label today. It was on sale for $6.99 with a $2 rebate. So, five bucks for a bottle of bourbon. It's made by the same folks (Heaven Hill) who make Elijah Craig 12 (and 18) and the Evan Williams Single Barrel (duh) with the same mashbill. It's comparatively harsh compared to the EC12 and the EWSB, but not half bad at a giveaway price. It will, however, probably be relegated to mixing.

Egg Nog!!!!

I was drinking a bit of EW black label on the rocks last night. I have some kind of nasty sinus infection, so good stuff would have been a waste & I still got the theraputic effect. I may have to go to real medicine soon.

Bulleit Bourbon (Frontier Whiskey) and water ,ice .

Glad I just picked up a small bottle, not to my liking. A little to bitter for my tastes.

Finally cracked open my bottle of Weller Antique 107 Brand (no age statement) wheated bourbon. Man that is some nice stuff. I guess I am just a wheated bourbon kind of guy. Not that there is anyhting wrong with that. I'll be looking to try & buy other Weller's in the future.

I also like the wheat over the rye. The tour guide at Buffalo Trace explained it this way. " It's like the difference between rye and wheat bread in their taste"

Weller is my go to Bourbon for now with the RIP 107* getting so scarce.

Good point, if I knew the RIP 107 & 90 would disappear off the shelves I wouldn't have drunk mine so quickly. Ahh, who am I kidding?

Thanks PM,

Wise advice to us all. I particularly liked this part:

"Drinking—as opposed to sipping—alcohol at very high concentrations risks damage to any and all of the tissue it encounters along the way: mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach"

That explains the burning sensation from high proof spirits. I've never been a fan of the Wild Turkey that is over 100 proof. Too much burn not enough of the flavor.

New thread as suggested above:

I expect you all to chime in. It combines booze and music. Two great pleasures in life.

Picked up & cracked open a bottle of Elmer T Lee the other night. it had gotten good reviews everywhere I looked and justifiably so. Very nice, smooth & a worthwhile addition to the bar. I just had to pour myself a second taste.

Did you already cut the bottle down to make a drinking glass? ;-)

IIRC, it has lots of rye in the mash bill.
