Favorite Bourbon

PM, I have some similar Mexican glasses. They have a straight side. Haven't seen those.

The regular Liquor Store was out of Weller 107. They said it would be in tomorrow if the distributor had it. I'll report back.

It is about $25 for 750ml here. I don't know how that compares with other states/cities.

I've got some tubular ones, too. My folks used to import Mexican glassware from Taxco in the 1970-80s.

Weller 107 runs a couple bucks higher here than that. I'm sitting on an unopened 1.75 bottle of the last age-statement bottling of the 107 (seven years). In some places around here, the 12 year old costs less than the 107. But I find the 12 to be a much more enjoyable sip.

My grandmother had some cobalt glasses like that, but one of my other cousins inherited them. I've been on the lookout for a set since.

Bulleit Frontier Whiskey (Bourbon). What the Hell is Frontier Whiskey?

I sanded the hood of my car toady and spent $136 for polishes to bring it to "like new" again. Afterward I had this.

Nice glass!

Well, from what I understand about both Bulleit and true frontier whiskey, they probably have nothing in common, although the clear glass bottle with cast lettering is supposed to replicate the look of late 19th century patent medicines.

Nice whiskey, though.

I corrected the spelling in my post 2 above. Is this pronounced like what comes out of a gun or a French pronunciation like Boo-let?

Not directly related, and stolen from FaceBook:

Many people ask me how I've made it to 64 without getting married. I usually reply I just haven't found the right woman yet. Then it's the usual "what are you looking for?" My response usually goes...

A real woman is a man's best friend.

She will never stand him up and never let him down.

She will reassure him when he feels insecure and comfort him after a bad day.

She will inspire him to do things he never thought he could do;
to live without fear and forget regret.

She will enable him to express his deepest emotions and give in to his most intimate desires.

She will make sure he always feels as though he's the most handsome man in the room and will enable him to be the most confident, sexy, seductive and invincible...

No wait...Sorry.

I'm thinking of Bourbon. It's Bourbon that does all that ****.

Never mind.

Bulliet...a very nice bourbon!
Collingwood, also a very nice whiskey, made in the bourbon style, but of course being Canadian made, can not be called a bourbon.
I'd highly recommend any whiskey drinkers to sample it... If you can find it. Dunno if they export it to the US however...?

Same glass as the post 3 above. Today 3 fingers of Weller 107 (found another bottle) after buffing, polishing, glazing and waxing my car's trunk.

This was a 3 hour ordeal. I tried 7 different polishes to see which did best with swirl marks. Some just added them. So afterward I put on a glaze and paste wax.

Now relaxing with some EARLY Fleetwood Mac:

Albatross
Black Magic Woman
Closing My eyes
Underway
Oh Well

In Albatross the counterpoint guitar is about 5 feet back of my back wall. I love this presentation! Or the Bourbon, or both!

Six more hours of cleaning the car's interior, clean the leather and add a restorer (it is 14 years old), and vacuum.

Found out that a 99 cent lint remover works better than a vacuum on what passes for "carpet" on an S2000.

I poured 2-3 fingers of the Weller 107 and HOOCHIE MOMMA! Even with two ice cubes and the requisite splash of water my head is going to explode. Or maybe it is that I turn 64 on Monday. Making me an old fart, wuss?

Maybe I should shy away from high proof liquors.

It has all the flavor of a high priced (top shelf) liquor without the price. PM has recommended another Weller that I will seek out.

Thanks!

I'm not really a bourbon drinker (I prefer Scotch Whisky.) That said, I am really liking the Bulliet Rye for the money. It goes for about $24 a bottle out here, and I think it's on par with much more expensive bourbons I have tried.

Rye is what us Canadians make...
Bulliet is more corn whiskey than rye whiskey.
Just saying. ;)
What's your poison as far as Scotches go?

(In the old ranger voice) Now I don't want you boys to get me wrong, I put in that Jack and George don't say Bourbon on the bottle just as an example of the "Kentuckey only!" rule. Both are Bourbon, but can't call themselves Bourbon. They are made in Tennessee, and are called "Tennessee Sipping Whiskey"

Boy that is a long way to go to not say Bourbon.

BTW, this was one of the tidbits I read in the 60s in Playboy. Yup, I read it too!

The laws have changed since then...
Now any distillery in the USA can make and sell a bourbon.

You Americans have it made!
I have to spend $45 and up for a decent bourbon! Bulliet, Maker's Mark, et al, are all damn near $50. Almost anything else, I have to go to a big city or special order the finer stuff.

Anyone for Wild Turkey?!

And don't even get me started on scotch!

Bulliet makes more than one kind of whiskey. Just sayin' ;)

In addition to its use for a brand of bourbon, the Bulleit brand name is also now used for a rye whiskey launched in March 2011 with a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley.[8][9][10] The bottle for the rye variation uses a green label and is otherwise similar to the bourbon bottling (which uses an orange label).[9] Like the bourbon, the rye whiskey is bottled at 45% abv.[10] Unlike the bourbon, the rye whiskey is reportedly produced in Lawrenceburg, Indiana at Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana.[11][12] Bulleit rye whiskey is only available in the U.S. market.[13]

As for my Scotch passion, my current favorites are Bunnahabhain 18, Lagavulun Distiller's Edition, and Arran's Devil's Punchbowl. I am also a big fan of various Taliskers, Laphroig, and Caol Illa, especially the Caol Illa 28 year old.

Almost everything else still holds true, legally. Single use, charred oak barrels, nothing added (but water) after aging, aged a minimum of 2 years to be called "straight", etc.

I dunno if bourbon can be charcoal filtered afterwards...? Else I'd think Jack would use the bourbon name, as practically everything else they do in the process is identical to bourbon.

That's interesting that they don't sell their rye up here...? I wonder if it's a Canadian protectionism law... Have you tried it?
Personally, I don't much like rye straight. Very sweet, almost syrupy...very good with Coke though.

Yes, the Bulleit Rye is the one to get. Their regular bourbon is not nearly as good, IMO.
