Favorite Bourbon

Agreed. I just tried the 1792, very nice (to me anyhow) almost a bit of sweetness. But my standby is Bulleit. For the price, I haven't found a better bourbon.

I like Bulleit Rye a lot, but their Bourbon to me is just alright. It's very inexpensive in Austin, but up in New York where I go to school it is very overpriced.

Haven't tried the rye yet. I've only seen it at one store here. Bulleit is running about $23 bottle, so pretty good price. Another I kind of like is the Evan Williams Single Barrel. Hard to find here though.

Yeah, be sure to ask your local dealer for the Rye (it's the green label.) My local liquor stores carry it now due to popular demand.

Bulleit is my go-to rye, but on special occasions I pick up Willet Rye. Best damn rye i've ever had for the money (about $40 depending on your location).

Nobody likes Canadian rye? ;)
I couldn't recommend one though...

Sent from my iPhone...

Alberta Premium and Forty Creek Barrel Select are both good Canadian rye whiskeys. FWIW, several of the very best straight American rye whiskeys (Whistle Pig, Jefferson's) are both from the same distillate as Alberta Premium, but aged in the US. In fact, I don't think any of the real American rye whiskeys are 100% rye as, for some reason, it's hard to make 100% rye. Nearly all 100% rye whiskeys get their "juice" from Alberta Distillers, Ltd. in Calgary.

So many good Bourbons, so few brain cells left.

I turned 64 on Monday, and started drinking Bourbon at age 17.

I'm doomed and groggy. The Weller Antique 107 is getting to me. So I use it sparingly!

That Macallan has been around here for a couple of years. I don't really care for it at all, but figured it'll make a nice decoration until somebody drinks it. I don't see any Scotch making inroads into the whiskey bar any time soon. The "top shelf" stuff is just bottles that won't fit under the shelf. And bills.

Macallan is highly regarded, but to me it's Scotch for people who aren't Scotch drinkers...

Nice. Lagavulin and Laphroig would be my go-tos from that selection. PS The Lagavulin DE is orders of magnitude better than the regular Lagavulin

You guys are just bragging. I'm retired. I draw a tiny retirement from K-C and a little more from SS.

I can't afford more than a standard every day (not really) whiskey, Ezra Brooks, and a treat for special days like the Weller Antique 107.

I'm beginning to think that Weller is a best kept secret (except for in this thread).

I'm in a similar boat. State pensions don't pay what everyone thinks they do.:sigh:

I recently replaced Ezra or Evan with Very Old Barton for 'daily' drinking at $1 more.

My 'special' bourbon is now the middle-grade Four Roses instead of Wild Turkey and I only get that as a Xmas present or B'day gift.

Have a bottle of 30 yr. old Weller 107 that's saved for really, really momentous occasions. Almost gone so it's time for a new one. Santa?

I got a nasty little surprise from SS when I decided to take it a bit earlier than planned (family history dictates against waiting too long). Even though I had 20 years in the SS system, I only get half of what I should (based on my years of contributions and dollars paid in) because I also get a pension from my 20 years of working for local gubmint.

Ezra makes good juice. I've been alternating between Very Old Barton and Evan Williams as my daily-drinkers. Leaning more towards the VOB, though (but a bit harder to find, and it hurts my back crawling down on the floor peering into those bottom shelves).

You know how I feel about Weller's, especially the 12.

Sorry, when I am speaking tongue-in-cheek the smiley for that would look quite obscene. I have never seen one.

I don't regret your being able to buy all those. Just that I can't. That is really, really different!

It's my bad, I feel really stupid, too. I've grown used to not discussing gear on this site for risk of upsetting people, it just slipped my mind in a booze thread.

Won't happen again! :thmbsp:
