Favorite Bourbon

I just came back from Kelly Services going through the hiring process for another temp job at Kimberly-Clark (again). I'm a Kelly Girl! ! ! ???

I am guessing but it might be 5:00 PM in England now.

I'm employed again, so I am sipping some Woodford Reserve. I really like this stuff!

........

I bought myself a Christmas gift, a 7.5l Bottle of Knob Creek. Saturday I came down with something, cough, congestion and a very sore throat. Sunday I had an infection in my lungs.

I broke out the Knob Creek to help the throat. 100 proof helps as an analgesic, too!

I went back to work today, I contracted this at work. And now I'm relaxing with another killer drink.

YMMV, don't try this at home unless you are an old guy.

Congrats on the new employment and condolences on the chest cold Grainger. Hope you're feelin' better soon.

Enjoying a little Weller 107 pre Christmas cheer out here on the left coast.:D

Bob,

I need to make a Christmas Liquor Run today.

Thanks for the well wishes and the suggestion for the Weller 107. That should kill anything inside me.

I gave up drinking alcohol many years ago, but before I did, my absolute favorite Bourbon was "Knob Creek".
I was more of a Scotch drinker, but was known to hit "Wild Turkey" with dinner, or "Knob Creek" when I had it around.

Alas. I almost wish I had not become a health nut. ;)

I found this site pretty fun and informative finding where to purloin yer favorites.
wine-searcher

The six year price tracking is pretty interesting on the Pappy and Weller lines.

Fairly flat for years then go hockey stick in May 2013. [sniff]

Today I am testing a new Weller (I'll insert the name here) against the bronchitis I have had for a week. With a splash of water it is amazingly good for the price. Mixed it is killing my cough reflex.

I like this stuff, and will give it a name soon.

Whatever I have has been kicking my ass. I finally got around to reading the label.

Green Top/Weller Special Reserve/7 Year Old. I'm going to get another of these.

If you can find some, grab it. Weller quit age-dating the Special Reserve a couple of years ago. The 12 is the only age-specified Weller product now, although nowhere have I read that the taste has changed, so you've a NOS bottle there.

Sounds like you've got a source!

you talkin' specifically bout the "dated" bottles or Special Reserve in general?

Where I live I've got SR and 107 readily available. The 12 (that I've yet to put my lips upon) however.....is a unicorn.

If you see THIS bottle, it's left over old stock (notice the seven on the neck... and the bottle shape). Grab all you can (within reason).

This is the new bottle, with no age statement. Still a great bourbon.

It was a Weller weekend for me, in an effort to drown my cold. Weller Antique 107 on Saturday & some Weller 12 last night. I had to bring out the big guns to kill off the germs that were bugging me. While not drunk consecutively, the Weller 12 is gaining the upper hand as far as preference.

I've been drinking Buffalo Trace (I did some work for the Glenmore distillery, a sister company a while back) and really enjoy it. Picked up a bottle for the holidays and right next to it was Weller 107. Thinking that may be the next bottle purchased, I am just getting into bourbon in the past year after about 11-12 years of single malt scotch being my occasional liquor of choice.

Used to be more of a beer drinker, but a severe gout attack this summer really put the beer in my rear view mirror.

Thanks. Yeah...figured that much. I've got a new bottle of SR and it's quite fine and dandy. I just don't have the NOS to compare it to.

It was your "grab it" statement that perked my query. Given your comment here and what "you've read" about the overall appeal....I now venture to say that "grab it" was meant more for the label itself other than it being a noticeably better product. ???

I'm a traditionalist, so age appellations and "Bottled in Bond" statements add value to me and add to my enjoyment. I bought up all my local liquor emporium's stock of 7-YO Weller 107 after the change in bottling.

A couple of nights ago, I had an Old-Fashioned. When I asked what kind of bourbon they used the waitress replied "Four Roses". I heard about the brand's success and was intrigued. Too bad I didn't get more info on the bottle because now I'd like to buy it but am unsure which one to get.

The drink really opened up a new aromatic signature after the ice melted.

There are three AFAIK. The $20 bottle is a blend of, I think, 10 whiskies, the Small Batch ($30) is a blend of 4 selected varieties, and the Single Barrel ($40) is a selected single. Curious if the selection changes from batch to batch.

I got the Small Batch last year and just got the Single Barrel, so I've only had a few sips of it. Both very aromatic. So far the Single Barrel seems to have a slightly longer finish. I plan to some more extensive tasting tonight! :D

Update: I've been tasting both since last night and I just can't tell which I like better. I've compared them several times and the taste and my preference change each time. The Single Barrel seems to have more body and taste but it could just be the extra 5% proof. I think I'll have Fishwife set me up for a blind tasting before the Small Batch is all gone..
