Favorite Bourbon

After having noticed again last night the repeated praise for Weller 12 on AK, I did a web search on our county's liquor stores. They seemingly got in about 4 cases just yesterday for the first time in about a year. I dropped by a nearby store who got 12 bottles yesterday and just 3 bottles were left. I picked up all 3 for $19.35 apiece. A store employee said a fellow had just purchased 9 bottles earlier today. I just did a search and there are three bottles left in the county. It's possible that a load of Weller 12 hit the streets of your neighborhood as well.

I haven't yet tried it, but I'll be sipping some soon.

That's a steal from where I'm sitting right now. :thmbsp:

Thanks for the heads up...I just went around the corner to check with my spirits monger, [sniff] not a drop. Only place I can find it "in stock" is Internet Wine & Spirits out of Fairview IL. Alas, the short supply allows them to gouge the price by 3 times what you paid. :nono:

Got a link for the search? I wouldn't know what to Google.

Thanks!

Montgomery County, MD happens to have the distinction of being the only county in the country with full control over the distribution of all alcohol within its borders (which, I believe, may be true of some states, but not counties). Their beer and wine selection and pricing suck (but DC's are thankfully excellent), but their liquor prices are great, particularly their monthly sales. I'd bet they're cheaper than they are in many places, including Kentucky for bourbon (Eagle Rare for $22, for example).

About to break the seal on a bottle of Elijah Craig 12 yr Small Batch that I bought on clearance ($21) from the ABC store today...

Has anyone got their lips on some of the Wyoming Whisky I mentioned up thread, I have given up finding it in Cheyenne.

Pappy 'Lot B' is the only valid comparison. Same 'juice', same age, but at 1/4 the price (Van Winkle gets first pick of the barrels).

I had a snort or two before dinner. I've mostly been a fan of rye bourbons as opposed to wheaters, but my view may be changing on this. They're both good. :D

Weller 12 is an exceptionally sweet, smooth bourbon. Sometimes I like a little edge on my whiskey, sometimes not. When not, this stuff is very nice.:tresbon:

This is what it looks like. A combination of the green, new bottle top and says "Aged 7 years" at the top.

Tonight starting the New Year right, having some Baker's, this one is very nice, glad to have a chance to buy some. :D

Finished off my bottle of Weller 12 last night, fortunatly there was a replacement in the bullpen.

There are three AFAIK. The $20 bottle is a blend of, I think, 10 whiskies, the Small Batch ($30) is a blend of 4 selected varieties, and the Single Barrel ($40) is a selected single. Curious if the selection changes from batch to batch.

I got the Small Batch last year and just got the Single Barrel, so I've only had a few sips of it. Both very aromatic. So far the Single Barrel seems to have a slightly longer finish. I plan to some more extensive tasting tonight! :D

Update: I've been tasting both since last night and I just can't tell which I like better. I've compared them several times and the taste and my preference change each time. The Single Barrel seems to have more body and taste but it could just be the extra 5% proof. I think I'll have Fishwife set me up for a blind tasting before the Small Batch is all gone..

I've only tried the Small Batch and the Single Barrel. I like the Small Batch better but might have to try a side by side as well. Out of the Bourbons I've tried I'm liking Four Roses the most.

Just came home with some Weller 12 from a fairly fancy bottle shop. They had three, the 90 proof, 7 YO Weller Special Reserve, Weller Antique 107 and the Weller Special Reserve 12.

I've only had a few sips but the 12 is full bodied and smooth. Not as much kick as 107, of course. But a step above the Weller (7) 90 proof.

my first taste

Went to the mash market today with a long time buddy. Made a beeline to the W.L. Weller bins. Zippidy doo da dammit...wiped out. They're shelf stickered for 107 and SR only-- the 12 is a bassard step-child to them. :(

So I ended up snatching a bottle of Four Roses (Small Batch) to try. I still have about half of a 1.75 bottle of Special Reserve...but that might get lean this weekend as we're having a season end swaree for football pool that I manage.

Then out of nowhere my buddy grabs this and says, "Here, this is one's on me mate."

Her stats are 7 years-1 mo. @128.9 proof. :eek::eek:

My tongue & tonsils generally don't like/can't tolerate anything above 90...but he says, "this is really good stuff and I want to donate something to the party. I had some at Buddy Guy's joint in Chicago and they were gettin' $46 for a three finger tumbler." I dunno...I've never had any :screwy: so ok.

Later I learns that this is uncut ...so that for a rocks/melt guy like me it ain't all that hard of a wallet hit at $50. In any event, this will most assuredly be tucked away from most of the party comers and goers this Sunday. Not to say that it won't be made available on a sneak off to a select few close mates.

heh, since I'm just recently getting into "the good stuff" ...never thought I'd have to treat/drink my corn squeezins like phat spliff. :smoke:
