Favorite Bourbon

Spec's lists a 100 proof Barton (750ml for $14.41). It may be available in Austin, maybe Waco; downtown Houston and 3 other stores are listed as "call store."

None at Spec's Austin last time I looked (a few weeks ago). But I'll look again, thanks!

Call them and let me know where it's available. Maybe I'll get you one. ;)

Spec's in Austin carries none of the Barton products.

If you happen to stumble across a bottle of that VOB/BIB in H-Town, I would greatly appreciate your snaring me one. We'll figure out delivery.

Just finished off a bottle of Woodford Reserve last night, but my usual is Jim Beam. I'm partial to Knob Creek and Maker's. Here in Mexico, it's not always easy to get the less well-known brands though.

I often buy Glenfiddich 12 or 15 year or Glenlevit 12.

Pappy van Winkle 20 year old would be my favourite bourbon, but is almost impossible to find now (and the price keeps going up astronomically). Maker's Mark is in the same taste spectrum, but less intense. But a lot cheaper. My everyday whisky is 40 Creek, which is an amazing bargain and has more of the bourbon vanilla and butterscotch tastes than other Canadian whiskies. For Scotch, Lagavulin, but having a dram of that is a major commitment to having that flavour in your mouth for the next 24 hours………….

The other night, I walked into a bar/restaurant and saw 15yr Pappy for $70/shot. I couldn't believe my eyes at first.

Bourbon of the house is Buffalo Trace over here. Always trying new drams but BT is reliable, affordable and great neat, on the rocks, or in a mint julep.

Knob Creek, but lately mostly Bulleit for the simple fact that I can get a 1.75 Liter bottle at Costco for $31.99.

The Weller hit the stores around here earlier in the week.

New Distillery to be built South of me. Another stop on the Bourbon Trail!

As for Bulleit, ""The company was reluctant to say outright that Bulleit, which is widely rumored to be made at Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, will move to the new distillery.""

""Until now, Diageo has had no active distillery in Kentucky, although the company owns the historic Stitzel-Weller plant in Louisville, which is being turned into a $2 million tourist attraction.""

Posted as I sip on a glass of good ole Weller's Kentucky Tea before going to bed.

Good news. I grabbed a couple bottles of Antique 107 last week. I'll have to beat the bushes for some 12.

Are we saying that Weller 12 has been released for this year?

They shipped the Special Reserve and Antique into the Louisville stores last week. Getting the info on the 12yr old was a no go. They either don't know or will not tell. The stores around here have pretty much been sold out of Weller since Derby. Figured it might be dry other places. Some of our local stores will no longer carry Weller because it is now going out of state.:thumbsdn:

I actually found the Spec's that has some of the VOB/BIB in Austin (not their BIG warehouse store, but a smaller one). When I go into town next week I'm picking up a couple of bottles.

Barney,

I will check with my store who are big Weller fans. We are just 3 hours South on I75, Knoxville.

They had said that Weller 12 was due this fall, maybe October.

Not Yet

I went to the "Weller" store, they are really big on it. They have Special Reserve and 107. But no 12. I will check every week from here till I find it.

Finally scored my elusive 'King of the Bottom Shelf' target, Very Old Barton Bottled in Bond 100 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Hot and spicy, much hotter than the higher proof Old Grandad 114, but not in a 'grain alcohol' way. Lots of flavor(s).

The flavor profile reminds me more of Elijah Craig 12 than of the 86 proof Barton I use as my daily mix/rocks Bourbon. This BIB has banana and apple tones with a rye bite. It's a 'sipper' and perhaps a 'rock'-er. It gives Weller Antique a run, flavor and kick, to be the 'iced Bourbon' of the house.

But the price...

...$13.75 for a 0.75 liter bottle, makes this a remarkable pour for us under-achievers.
