Hurricane Helene

Don't forget your water heater if you don't have tankless and it's drain is not clogged with sediment. Mine gets flushed at least once a year.
When the surge water during Helene got to the lower element, it blew up and smoked. I couldn't open the front door due to the weight of the water, so I climbed out the window. Standing in knee deep water, grabbed a dry wood dowel and closed the rest of the breakers.

Glad you where able to handle it! But intact it's a good source for 40ish gal of potable water.

Sorry guys, but again I have been forced to delete some posts here as being political. Please, the sister site Political Chat would welcome the traffic regarding what's going on with the hurricane relief efforts

Bad news, maybe. There's another tropical storm developing out there. It's getting to be something to watch out for, isn't that how they all start.

Hello Bill Ferris..Just wanted to ask if you have heard from your friend up around Burnsville N.C.
Hello back, Govany.
Sadly, no contact from my friend so far.
If you can be of any informational help, my friend`s name is Mark Huber, and their address is 62 Cold Spring Rd. Burnsville NC.

I remember you conveyed to me that you found out Cold Spring Rd. was mostly, or completely washed away !

Any information that you can find out about my friend`s elderly mother`s property`s condition, and if possible their alive status, I would be most grateful to you, Sir.

I had to quit watching YouTube videos on ground & drone footage the past few weeks of the area`s catastrophic destruction and death toll, as it was depressing me intensely about my friend`s mountain`s house`s survival status !

Thank you for reaching out about my friend`s status, as that was extremely kind and considerate of you, Sir.

Take care.

After a little snooping around I'm seeing an obituary for Anna Lee Huber from 2/14/21, Mark Huber is listed as her surviving son.. His name is not on the Yancey county storm victims list, so we can take that as good news..
You take care as well Mr, Ferris, Sir

Thank you very, very much with your efforts about the provided encouraging updated information.
His elderly mother`s, prior to hurricane Melton, passing doesn`t surprise me, and I just then remembered her first name after you provided it above.
And showing that Mark`s name wasn`t listed on the "known Yancey county`s victims list" is comfortingly encouraging, but he could still be unaccounted for and missing unless you can know that "all" the county`s known county`s registered individuals missing persons have been accounted for, both found alive or recovered mud buried victims.
Am I correct ?
Mark, had not chosen for some reason to notify me of his mother`s passing in an e-mail, though in his defense, his mother and I had little interaction while we (Mark and I) hung out together down in South Miami through the seventies until I moved up here in 1983.
Thank you very much for this most encouraging information again, Govany.

You are correct, the guys at the fire dept told me three people from that area are still unaccounted for, I don't know those names..
When you think about it I guess the numbers aren't that surprising considering the amount of destruction that has taken place

Sadly not surprising !
Again thank you greatly for your inquiries on my behalf.

I`m going try to send a reach out probing e-mail to see if he can access internet, on the out chance, if possible, he decided to, or can drive his off road 4 wheeler into a nearby internet functioning WiFi hotspot to let the folks who are concerned about his well being know he`s ok.
That`s all I can do, other than any additional information you desire/can gratefully provide me.
I think that Mark is also diabetic, and that can complicate his situation if he`s alive and isolated on the property with limited supplies of Insulin !

The main road into pensacola is now open, although it's just one lane and mostly dirt, lots of good people live in that area and they check on their neighbors..

Ok, Govany, good news about my friend !
He`s alive as I just received an e-mail response from him, via his cell phone, from my Friday`s e-mail reach out inquire probe.
His house is mostly intact with some undermining foundation wash out near the front edge toward the creek that runs near the house after it majorly overflowed from my friend`s claim of 33" of Helene`s rainfall.

He indicated that he stayed at a Red Cross evacuation center for 8 days, and no surprise when he also indicated that the Ashville/Burnsville & surrounding area`s devastation reminded him of Hurricane Andrew in 1991 while he was living in South Miami FL. when that the whole area was wasted from the very high wind and storm surge !

Anyway, I`m now at ease, with receiving my friend`s e-mail communication, and the several other long time friends that live further down my state of FL. that Hurricane Milton trashed whom I have been able to get in contact with that are all alive and well, just currently dealing with putting their house`s/property damage back in order.

Thank you for taking the effort for trying your inquires for looking into my friend`s status, whether he was alive or dead on my behalf!
I`m most grateful for that, kind Sir. Now I can sleep more soundly !

Good luck and fortune with any efforts on your personal recoveries situation in that devastated area`s rebuild.

Most kind regards, Billy Ferris
