I am so old I remember........

I am old enough to remember when the correct place for the "$" was at the beginning of the number, not at the end.

I remember going to the drive-in in our jammies. We would play in the playground by the screen. And there was only one screen. Mom had us in our pajamas because we always crashed before the movie was over and it was time to go home.

I remember the smell the old B/W 23" Zenith gave off as I was curled up on my Mama's lap/tummy, watching Huntley/Brinkley...Tooob stuff back in the day gave off this marvelous "Homey" smell that modern stuff just can't match...And NOTHING can ever match the feeling of being curled up on yr Mama's lap..

I remember when I was in high school and records went up from $3.00 to $3.25. I said: "Nuts to that, I'm not buying any more records!"

I didn't even get that far. In 1966, you could 'hear it before you bought it' down at Gerhards. The lady behind the counter had 45's in slots on the wall behind her with an absolutely gorgeous looking turntable in the corner with green felt. At .99 per record I think I bought maybe 2. So I figured why not buy a cassette tape, record them off the radio and save money. I probably have 100 of them. Full.

Oh, yeah..I always ran up & put my eye on that little white dot to see if I could see what was still goin' on after my parents turned the TV off..Shoulda worked, but sadly, it didn't..

The Red Chinese tested their first nuclear bomb above ground. My parents thought it was to blame for static on television in New York.

Also, banks had guards.

I'm enjoying the memory jolts!

Burma Shave signs along the highways.

Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz played ONCE a year and was a big event. And we thought they were all in B & W.

S & H Green stamp stores I'd go to with my mom.

Crusader Rabbit cartoons.

Nightly newscasts were 15 minutes! Followed by Jack Paar or Steve Allen.

Roller Derby.

Air raid sirens blaring in your ears at least once a day!

Stanley Home product demonstrations.

Alaska and Hawaii becoming states.

Alaska and Hawaii becoming states.

Remember this flag from between the two states being admitted?

Dude, they still sell candy cigs at the stores on the east side. I nearly **** when I saw them there on the counter. The pack was made to look like Red Apples, and even had fake warnings on the side. I bought a pack, so you can see them at Twangfest. I was thinking of buying a few cases and selling them as new in the box antiques on epray.:scratch2:

You gotta be kiddin! I thought those were driven off the market years ago. Well I'll smoke one with ya. :D

I am so old to remember that milk was only sold in glass bottles, the stopper was made of a kind of thin aluminum.

I am so old that I can remember when milk was delivered.

No, wait.

It was not delivered, I had to go to the cows and physically remove the milk. :D:D

My grandmother had a huge Zenith black and white console TV. We used to watch Mickey Mouse Club on it. When you turn it off, it had a small dot in the middle of the picture tube that would take forever to disappear.

Listening to Dr. Demento live on KMET FM, Los Angeles. Now THAT'S OLD!!

Heh, Sunday night!

Also Listening to that newfangled FM radio stuff like KLOS, and some obscure little NPR radio show called Prairie Home Companion, thought it was just a summer fill in show...

Orange juice machines that made the juice come up though a tube in the centre and cascade down the sides. Sweets machines on the wall outside shop doors that didn't get robbed or vandalised. Workmen with their tea sitting round braziers and the smell of tar. Rag and bone men with their horse and cart, blowing their bugle and dad rescuing his best trousers before it was too late!

Yep - I remember most of that.

Workmen with "Road Up" signs +1 the smell of tar, separate Greengrocer, Baker, Butcher, Sweet, and Ironmonger shops. Knife sharpeners coming along the road, calling for knives to sharpen. Steam trains, Trams, Trolley Buses. Cars with 'starting handles', no heater, and no radio....
