The spruce green one is a 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback with 67K on it.

Bought it used in 2001 with 24K on it.

The red and white one is for commuting on really rainy days!

Here is my ride. Had it sideways in the parking lot at my school on the wet pavement today. Its so nice going sideways, very neutral and easy to control.

The low resolution hides the scratches and dents. Mine is a mess. The roof is even dented in (previous owner put something way to heavy up there, bent the roof rack and put some big dents up there.) Also, that picture was taken before I started parking um.... in the bushes at my friends house, custom pin striping all down the passenger side of it now. And then there are the small nicks on the bumper from pushing shopping carts around with it, and snow banks, Oh and the one time I ran it into the house. Although that didn't do any damage to the car or the house.

Also, as far as it being clean, that was just after I got back from the car wash... actually the only time I have taken it to the car wash. That was about a year ago.

It has also been driven over an unseen 10" log at 35mph, without breaking anything. I wish we had more dirt roads around here, I have to get my fun out in parking lots (had it sideways today on the wet pavement actually).

I am in the west side of Sussex county.

Re: "sideways" it's a trip sliding them on gravel roads. If I kept driving mine that way I would have needed to devise some underbody armor to protect it from flung gravel and other stuff. I don't understand why everyone in New England doesn't drive a Subaru.

A fun car with excellent design and finish at a fair price IMHO. :scratch2:

Yes, a great car. Although you don't have enough millage on it to run into the normal problems with the 97-99 years. Plan on head gaskets right around 100,000mi. The go almost like clockwork, literally +-3,000mi. You will know when they go when the coolant starts getting pushed into the overflow bottle. Also, the latter half of 99 has speedometer failures (been ignoring mine for about 12,000 miles). They can develop a delay going into drive, about 15 seconds or so. Although if you stay on top of it none of these problems will keep you from getting home (Just keep a turkey baster in the car to put your coolant back into the radiator at the start of every trip.)

Also, plan on replacing the knock sensor at 140,000mi, they have a rubber coating that cracks after a while and will make the ECU pull timing 15*. If you think it has no low end tourqu now wait till that happens.

By 100K I may be ready to invest in another new used Subaru. Perhaps an Impreza Outback. :scratch2:

It's a tough choice because once you fix the headgaskets you are good for another 150,000 miles easily if you take care of it. Although if its any consolation, the second half of 99 outbacks are actually the most problematic Subaru. It only gets better.

The later 99's have the speedometer problem and a very few (ie, mine) have a known problem from the 2000 model year with the front sway bar rusting through and snapping if you hit a bump just right. So far the only problem I haven't gotten on mine is the transmition delay.

So in total, the known problems for the second half of 99 are, headgaskets, speedometer, sway bar, and transmition.
