Show us the first record you ever owned.

I don't know the first one for sure but there are some it seems I've had forever. Stan Kenton - Standards In Silhouette, The Four Seasons - Dawn (Go Away), Roger Williams - Country Style, Ricky Nelson - For You, The McCoys - Hang On Sloopy to name just a few. Yes, I still have the original copy of every one of them. Those are LPs of course. Before that I know I had childrens records and many 45s but I don't know what they were. Somehow they disappeared during my teenage years.

Mine goes back somewhat farther. When I was young my grandmother had her fathers Vocalion crank phonograph which we would play when we were in the basement where it had ended up. In those records was a pieced called "A Sweet Bunch of Daises" and another called "Uncle Tom".. The first is a country type violin record from the early 30s and the latter is a drum and piano piece from the 20's.. I still have both of them after having gone though thousands of old 78s, those two remained.

My first record was a 78. :) It was "Dance With Me, Henry" by Georgia Gibbs. This was a cover of Hank Ballard and the Midnighters' "Work With Me, Annie". "Annie" was too blue and my father wouldn't let me buy it so I had to settle for the cover. :sigh:

For a long time he wouldn't let me buy Elvis' records either because of all the twerking. The guy was a total hypocrite. I didn't realize this until I got a little older and started to understand the lyrics to some of the jazz and blues records he listened to. ;)

Anyway, a while back I found a copy on 45 RPM so I had to have it. It's the only 45 I own and I use it to check and adjust 7" set-down but I never really listen to it. I just keep it around for nostagic reasons. To be honest, it's pretty lame. :D

Singles - either Matthew & Son by Cat Stevens or Heroes & Villians by the Beach Boys, can't remember which.
LP - In Search of the Lost Chord by the Moody Blues.

First record I ever bought was a 45, "The Carpenters, For all we know" the year it came out. 1970,71 ish. Can't remember what was on the flip side.

The first Album I ever bought in 1973;

Yes, i still have it. Yes, it is still playable, albeit a bit worn. I bought a 2nd copy in 1981

My 1st LP was one my parents gave to me-"Million-Dollar Mood Music Sampler"....Instrumental greats, straight outta 1956...One I remember was a ditty called "Majorette", by Monte Kelly... Daddy also got me "Meet The Beatles" on one of his trips to NYC, when I was a kid...Wore it OUT... My Mom didn't like it, until she actually HEARD it, & then it wasn't QUITE so dreadful...

When I was young it was not uncommon for all small children to have their own little turntable all built in with its own amp. I think this was one of the first records I remember. If not the first very nearly. I remember my sisters and brothers favorite part was the very end when the soccer used the broom to paddle the butt of Mickey. I do remember buying it with gift certificates that my Greatgandmother gave to me from Woolworth drug store. Back then those drugstores had a little bit of everything, including a small diner in them.

Jimi Hendrix "Cry of Love". A friends older brother said that Hendrix was the greatest guitar player that ever lived, so I had to hear it. I rode my bike about 15 miles round trip to get it. Worth it.

I got this when i was 6 from Camelot music. Still sounds incredible .

In 1979 I bought my first. I still have it although it's a VG at best and I won't play it. I did buy a replacement.

In 1964 I bought my first records.

45 rpm - Beatles, She Loves You & I Want to Hold Your Hand

33 1/3 lp - Beatles, Something New

The first LP I ever bought was in 1973. I bought "Decembers Children" The Rolling Stones. I don't have that LP anymore but I did buy a replacement a couple years ago.

My music tastes have changed: yes, that is a disclaimer.

My first album, that I ever bought with my own money, was Judas Priest Defenders of the Faith. I still have it - it's in excellent shape actually; it never gets played anymore. :)

"Very first record?"

That would be a pile of kiddie records in the early '60s. First records I ever bought were 45s, the typical Pop, Motown and Rock from the mid to late '60s.

First record was given to me by my Uncle Bernie...he worked for Capitol.....
