Transformer protective carton "wings"

Does anyone know what to use to replace broken protective carton "wings" on a transformer:



I could leave it alone but it doesn't feel right with all the connections exposed to the top cover.

Don't know why that is even there. Transformer doesn't need it, far as I can tell by just looking at it.

It’s there as a primitive protective cover for all those wire connections.

My first instinct is to try looking at a framing or art store for picture matting material. Looks to be a similar thickness. It’s made in different colors and sizes. Could likely be scored to create the fold.

This looks like the paper used to build electric motors, right? It could work - all I want is to preserve the electric insulation that was there I believe for a reason. Hey it is pretty cheap so I will include it in a next purchase and let you know how applicable it may be. Thanks!

I had my 1200 plugged in, but powered off, and I accidentally touched one of the lugs on top of the transformer towards the back panel, I got that 120V tickle even with the power off.

Those flaps are probably the thickness of 4 good business cards stacked together.

EDIT: Just got something delivered from USPS, inside the box there was this:

It's the same thickness as the flaps.

Ouch! My thought is - if they put them there, they should be there. My 240 doesn't have them, but still. I am going to try getting some fish paper like Tom suggested, that seems to be the proper path. I may have to stack two sheets of 0.010 inch to make it the same thickness as the original.

The USPS envelope idea looks interesting, but I wonder how insulating is it?

The USPS material is thin cardboard box, like the Marantz stock flaps. Picture/Photo matte should work too. It's just to keep the tech and probably the top grill if it bent, from touching the transformer lugs.
