I have the CV model 2000-15's and I think they are certainly a fine speaker. They are a rare model from 1984, large walnut cabs, 8 driver per speaker. There are pics here on AK of them. They image superbly and are just a great speaker- even better than the great D9's I think!!

I think the early CV models are really very nice. The have full walnut cabs,polished metal horn flared tweeters, good 6" mids and real powerful 12" & 15" woofers, before their pink foam came to fashion. I have heard these a couple of times and liked them a lot. The woofers xovered low and was downfiring- overall a great sounding early effort by CV in their early days. If you get the chance to hear those please do! They looked very nice and sounded pretty good as well! I forget the model designations- you'll know them when you see them. They still bring respectable $$$ on auction sites.

That sounds like a winner on the CV collectible chart the ones you mentioned dc270, why they don't use metal horns anymore,i wish i knew? Altered a pair of H-15's with some horns and they sound so much better.

CV's have the monicor these days of being a "Party Speaker", and rightfully so for the most part. They can play quite loud, take a fair amount of power, are usually efficient, typically found in large boxes and are sonicly known for that large bass 50~75hz bass hump with screaming mids and tweeters. Balance is not their forte- but they do suit a sonic need that is still out there. That probably would be the general concersus of CV's.
One another thought I have tamed them (AT12's & 15's) to sound more refind, at least to my tatses. They have good solid cast frame woofers that can really pound and are bullet proof. Their range and responce are not bad. I like them for the most part and will pull off that stupid pink foam and put something more conventional on them that looks better. The 4"~6" mids are, well, OK. I will find something with less of a midrange bloat on them and sacrifice some effecintcy for smoother range. This is a critical area to tinker with- good driver selection is very important. Their tweeters for the reasons that are, were always "hot" if not just piecing. Again I will find a nice, less efficient, dome type with smoother extended range- like an Audax, Morel or Peerless model. After some xover tweaking to suit the new mids/ tweeters impedance/ responce curves I can usually bypass the tone controls. Finanlly I would rebrace the cabinets, add some padding and retune the venting. I ended up with a much better balanced and samoother sounding product that was easy to listen to for hours on end.
The CV 2000-15's I have now were not built like one of their typical "Party" speakers but actually were well balanced and more refined. The old CV sales person I spoke with told me they were going after the Klipsch and McKintosch buyers at the time and tested the waters with the 2000-15'. He told me it competed and sounded very good next to the premium named sompetition- but by that time CV's reputation was already cast as a "party speaker" and people WOULD pay more for the classier names- despite the fact that CV 2000-15's did sound better! The better made, smoother sounding CV day came and went pretty much like that I am told! Too bad, I think they did a good job at making a well made balanced smooth sounding product! I have taken these 2000-15's apart and I have to say I really cannot find any warts on them. The drivers are sensible and of good quality, the design is solid & sound and the looks are very nice- better than that they sound very good, even with my modest 100wpc power amp!

The older models with powerful 12 and 15 inch floor facing woofers mentioned above were the 12t and 12tr and the 15t. They have 6" and 8" midrange drivers, respectively, and flared horn tweeters. They also have rear facing horn tweeters which gave them some added ambience. I've worked on the 12 tr and own some 15t's and they have a smoother sound and very deep bass. I've easily rattled windows with 20 hz test tones at even low power. Many years ago Cerwin Vega also produced a giant called something like metron suft-fet with planar tweeter arrays and a 15 inch subwoofer. Never got to hear them.
