I was offered a pair of re-foamed Cerwin Vega D9's for $150.00. I have a Marantz 2245 receiver and have been holding out for some Dynaco A25's or 35's, but the prices on those are out of control by me. I am currently using a pair of JBL 2050's I picked for $20.00.
Thoughts on the quality...
I want to recone the woofer on a CV D9. The speaker is 152wr.
Do I purchase a 4 or 8 ohm kit?
I think the speakers are 8 ohm units...the multimeter read 5 ohms.
Thanks for your input.
I am new here...so please forgive me if I in any way miss-step with this post.
Have had my D-9s since new (September 1987) and sadly hadn't used them for several years. Dusted them off a few months ago, replaced the foam and fired them up and instantly fell back in love again. However, one...
Hello so I'm currently looking into sound systems for a "party/rave" outdoors mainly psytrance, oldschool jungle, I would love to get some Cerwin Vega TS-42 but the price is way to high for people to be standing, dirtying them them you probably guess I'm in the UK from that comment, I was...
Hi My name is Leah and I'm in Colorado. I'm a musician and director of a modern dance collaborative out here. My dad was a big gear head in the 70's and helped sparked in me a curiosity for making sounds. I recently inherited his Cerwin Vega sound system from 1977. My smaller speakers are MT320...
Picked these up a few weeks ago on a lark and have been thrilled ever since. I figured with 15" subs, dual ports, and being CV they would be a boomy mess. I was so wrong. (And also hadn't read that these were the TOTL CV aimed at the audiophile market)
They are incredibly well balanced and...
So in my search of a starting receiver I found a Home Theater Receiver that looks promising but too promising... It's the Yamaha RX-V550, it looks and sounds like an awesome deal for $70 but I'm not too sure on Yamaha never used their products. So does anyone have some input of this particular...
Figure I start my intro... So I very recently got into home audio and I've recently got a name brand whatever speaker pair Cerwin Vega E-315 I was originally using an oldish RadioShack Optimus setup, anywho I got my Vegas a couple days ago and have them running off of a Sony STR DH-550 and it...
Hello all,
Long time fan/reader (new member) first time poster. I recently purchased a pair of Cerwin Vega (CV) LS-15. While cleaning them and checking the speakers over more thoroughly at the house I find the fuses have been foiled. The ones in the slots are AGC3 and I have looked at the CV...
Hello all! Hoping to get some help from the community.
Just picked up some Cerwin Vega D5s very cheap. Couldn't resist the 12 inch woofers. Foam surrounds are shot, and speakers are dirty, looks like they spent some time sucking up water on the bottom few inches. But cabinets still look...
I recently purchased a Marantz SR 5011 Receiver fully knowing it would not power my AT-15's to the level i would like but to have a solid platform to build off of. I am now looking for a power amp to run these 4 ohm power hungry speakers. The SR 5011 is 4 ohm capable but does not have the 4 ohm...
Ah, the dreaded foam rot. I picked up a pair of Cerwin Vega R123 speakers last year, but the surrounds were toast on the 12" woofers. After I ordered the replacement kit from Simply Speakers, I had (what may or may not prove to be) the bright idea to record myself working through the whole...
So I have been looking at a lot of factory schematics from Cerwin Vega and I have noticed that in the early to mid 80s they started using inductors and capacitors to bridge the positive lead to the ground. Sometimes when they did it with the cap they also added a resistor. An example is in their...
I have a pair of Cerwin Vega XLS-215s. I like their sound stock but I can't help thinking redoing the crossovers with better quality parts, upgrading the wiring and adding a few internal braces and would improve their sound. I would also like to change the bottom end to sound more like the older...
Hey all,
I am rebuilding a set of crossovers for some Cerwin Vega PD-9s to put into some Cerwin Vega D9s and I am having a hard time finding exact matching values . An example is the original caps were 40uf, 1.5uf, 7uf, 5uf, and 3.5uf. I can only find a 6.8uf, a 3.3uf, and a 5.1uf. In some...
Hello friends! I know that there is a lot of love (and other) for the Vegas here. I plan on stringing a little run together at the Vega line. Maybe bring in 6-8 pair for a little "testing". So far i have AT-15's and AT 12's on the way. I also have a pair of LS-10's but they are bit too small for...
So, I've got a thread on here restoring a set of CV Cerwin Vega circa 1975 T15 s. Have (I think) isolated a capacitor as having blown; really avoiding any and all soldering "sittings"; ideally would like to know what the capacitor I think is fritzed is (its the big silver one on the board...
Got a Cerwin Vega LW15 (subwoofer) yesterday for $50 but when I plugged it in the subwoofer sounded as if it had a high pass crossover at 60hz. Low bass was not hitting and voices and such were fairly clear even when the plate amps lpf/crossover was set to 40hz - its lowest position. I played...
I recently picked up a Kenwood KM206 amp to power my center channel speakers that I also got recently. They are 4Ω speakers. The amp is rated to handle that load but I have been getting confusing information about the power the amp puts out. Every place I look on the net people say it puts...
Last month I came across a pair of Cerwin Vegas R10s at a local GW for $15 but just recently had time to spiff them up with a cleaning and new staining. A few corners where mashed in a little so I tried to build them up some wood putty, but discovered that it doesn't take stain too well...
Hey guys!
Just got a sweet pair of D7's for $100! Cabinets and grills are in near mint conditions and all the drivers sound Good. Just need to have the subs re-foamed which is costing me $130. I think I am pretty happy with the $230 price tag.
What I am wondering is if my Onkyo receiver will be...
