I posted a thread a while back looking for some insight on how to repair a set of McIntosh ML-1C loudspeakers. There wasn't much I could go off so I tried to contact Mr. Russel on the topic but I only got vague responses. Eventually, someone sent a picture of a pair someone else rebuilt. I ended...
I’ve got a driver with a very unique dust cap that needs to be replaced but I don't know of anyone who can do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In addition to a new dust cap I’m thinking I might need a new voice coil as well for one of my tweeters. If there’s a good speaker repair...
Do think there it’s any problem using Wharfdale W60 tweeters in W60D speakers? I realize the difference in speakers but the tweeters should be similar, at least they’re both purple? Any thoughts? Thank you.
Hi speaker experts,
I am trying to restore some 1969 AR3a's. I have followed the guidance from the speaker restoration pages, re-capped the speakers, and gotten the spider's on the woofer's repaired by Larry at vintage-ar.
I replaced the pots with some new ones from hifiaudio on ebay...
Hi all,
I am the original owner of a pair of Cizek Soundwindows from early 1980s. and am looking for a little guidance from anyone familiar with these. They still sound great and are perfect for my cozy 10 x 12 foot music listening/practice room in our NYC apartment! Recently, an intermittent...
I'm trying to replace old tweeters in ADS 1090's and can not remove them . They won't budge. Prying etc. is futile. Any suggestions for removal short of utter destruction of the cabinets? The cabinets appear to be sealed but for the low partial access in back. Thanks.
I wondered if anyone might know where I could find a replacement 6.5 inch midrange speaker for a Jamo D450. I would really like to find an original replacement so the speakers remain matched. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Hey all,
Just finished repairing my Sanyo SS-4000s with patches and Loctite glue. There was small tears that I wanted to stop from getting any bigger. Are these thin paperlike cloth patches I made going to effect performance way? Is this a good way to do it?
I'd like to replace the capacitors in the crossovers of my vintage D2 Cerwin Vega speakers (I purchased circa '87). In other models the crossover assembly can be removed from the outside by first removing the mounting screws. However, this model doesn't have mounting screws, see attached...
Hello there fellow AK’ers
I recently acquired a pair of DQ-10’s that needed the woofers refoamed, which I subsequently completed with good results.
Upon closer inspection I noticed that the 5” drivers with rubber surrounds were also beginning to deteriorate so i removed the rubber surround but...
Hello fellow AK’ers
I am having trouble getting the back cover off my newly acquired CS-99’s
The cover is made of some type of fiberboard which has become somewhat brittle it seems so I am hesitant to apply too much force to it for fear of breaking it.
The cover seems to be on pretty firmly...
Hey everybody!
These speakers are by far the best speakers I've owned so far in my brief life--just had to say that real quick..
My roommate got drunk and decided to turn his shitty frat country up to +10 dB for an hour and now the left bass speaker isn't spitting anything out.
I'd like to...
My Sansui AU 517 is in the shop right now getting a full recap and restoration. I have my heart set on acquiring a pair of 3 way ADS speakers to pair with the Sansui. My local CL has a pair of L880's that appear to be in nice condition for $450. Although the dome tweeter on one (please see pics)...
I just picked up a pair of CS a500's for next to nothing. The Boxes and grills are gorgeous, the woofers and mids are in tact and the tweeter foam is rotted as should be expected. One speaker is clear and sounds good - putting out strong sound in the "full range" setting (these speakers have...
I'm trying to get a pair of speakers refoamed. I tried doing one pair of speakers in the past and I screwed them up, so I'd rather get it done by a professional.
I've used Music Technology in Springfield in the past, but now they're raised their rates beyond what these speakers are worth...
Howdy, so I picked up a pair of AR M4.5s today for $30. I Ohmed everything out and I at least have continuity through the voice coils and resisters (don't know if that's necessarily a clean bill of health, but at least it's a thing). Problem is that one of the mids (1210131-2) has a busted...
Ok.
So i was screwing back my woofer in the cabinet and, ooooooops, screwdriver penetrated the surround but very small, maybe 1/8th inch tear in the middle of the "baffled(?)" part.
Is there a way to seal this as this is so small?
I was just wondering if you guys might have any tricks as to how you normally go about prying the board from the speaker. I'm having a particularly tough time getting the board out to start the soldering work. I thought about just trying to solder through the subwoofer hole but that seems...
Love em' or hate em', in great condition they sell for a profit. I've wanted a set for a while and scored them at a pretty good price, but the cabinets are shot. Normally I'd just take a set of rough cabinets and clean them up, but there are small chunks missing from these cabinets, so I'm...
I know these are well-regarded speakers by some folks, but now I wonder if I'm in over my head. Please advise.
Picked up a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 10A's with the black Peerless tweeters. Guy said one tweeter was blown and could not demo them at all, but I took a chance for $60. Well, got...
Hi all! Hope your tube amps are melting your carpets in that heat ;)
I'm looking for a place to repair my speakers after unfortunate event :(
I've tried Bartletts but they have been completely useless and unprofessional- better avoid if you are looking for a repair place.
I really want them...
Hello all-
I'm new to this forum and analog audio in general.
My wife just picked up an old KLH Model 24 from Craigslist. Her pop had one and she loves the look and sound. The speakers have no grills. Is there any aftermarket grill solution that would work? Or should I just be...
Hello all, I posted this on audio heritage earlier and I was wondering what your guy's thoughts are. I am here to just get an idea on what to do to bring back life to my l166 Horizons left mid-range. the left channel does not work I've tried cleaning the l-pad I even took the cap off (which hurt...
Hello again,
I have a pair of Celestion g12s-50's that are blown and rated for 8ohms. I want to recone these but the only parts I can find for the model have a 4ohm voice coil, found here https://qsr.net.au/shop/speaker-recone-kits/celestion-g12s-50-4-recone-kit/
I would actually prefer to...
Hello everybody, i need your help. My jbl l166 mid range isn't working, somebody on another thread suggested i clean the l-pads. I happen to have no idea what they look like, I cant find any visual aid. And (what i think are) the resistors have corrosion on the wires up to the thick flux-like...
