2010 Camaro, Challenger or Mustang?

I’m a big Mustang fan but would wait till next year, the Mustang GT is getting a 5.0 32 valve V8 with 400+ HP as standard equipment. That should give the Mustang a power to weight ratio that would put it on top performance wise.

Ahhhh...yes. But, that assumes the competition doesn't up the ante too.

Make Mine Mopar -- with the Hemi -- if I wanted to re-live my youth I'd have a Challenger. One of the classic car body stylings ever for a street car. Have to have the Hemi.

New Camaro is, as was posted before, "batmobile ugly" to me.

I've driven the current generation Mustang (and ones before, beginning in '69) in stock and modified versions. The current one has great exterior looks, but interior puts you in a tunnel. Cheap looking too.

But I would put my money today in a Pontiac GTO with the 6.0L.

1. Mustang GT, 2. Challenger, 3. Camaro
Don't like the new Camaro at all. looks like it was designed by the guys in the Cadillac division.

That would still be 22 hp short of the Camaro. I don't know what the comparative weights of the cars are, though. If the Mustang is lighter, the P/W ratio could swing into its favor.

The Independent Rear Suspension of the Camaro would also seem to give it an advantage over a "live axle". Is Mustang planning to go to IRS?

Out of the three, if I had the cash. The Challenger would be mine. To me it looks nicer than the other two. You really couldn't go wrong with any of them though. They would all be a blast to drive.

Also if performance is a concern, any of these three cars could be made faster than the others, with a simple rear end gear ratio change. Best bang for the buck mod out there!

ahhhh..... the Memories !!!

The year...1974, location..... Pinacle Hill, Rochester, NY , ......the 21 year old kid in the pic...me !

yep that was my '70 T/A Challenger, not quite stock, but she easily ran 13's

As to the original question.....I appreciate them all, love the looks of the new Challenger (too heavy though IMO), Mustang benefits from years of refinement, Chevy HAS got potential.

Ok...now for a triva question for you Dodge guys..... do you know from where the design inspiration came from for the T/A's scooped hood ??

I love a good story

And as I am required to do, I ask you this question:

What happened to it and why didn't you keep it?

I've been a GM fan since I was a little kid, and my dad has had 5 camaros so I would go with the new camaro. It looks like a modernized 69' except for the plastic interior, but what new car today has plastic everywhere in the interior? ALL OF THEM.

Next I would go with the Mustang and then the Challenger. The mustang handles better on the road than the camaro but doesn't have as much power. The Challenger just weighs to much, but its still one very nice car.

To me the new camaro looks a little hard edged, kind of like a 90's video game looking car. Thats not saying I wouldn't want one, but if I had my choice between the three, I wouldn't pass on the challenger. I'n my opinion, these are the three coolest cars out there right now.

I'll probably own one these guys someday, but knowing me I'll wait till is has some rust and 100,000 plus something miles before I plump out the cash.

I'm curious about this. The Camaro has IRS and the Mustang is "live axle".

Have you read this in a head to head comparison of them?

It just seems like the Mustang would be at a disadvantage here. :scratch2:

I would choose the new Camaro hands down to me it is the truest to the orginal design ! challenger #2 stang #3.....I think we all could agree that all of these beasts would look better with some more REAL chrome bumpers and trim ...just my 2cents

From Car & Driver's 3-way test:

2010 Ford Mustang GT
First place

The panel was shocked, shaken, and staunchly unanimous: This Mustang rules.

Why the low expectations? Look at the stats. Just 315 horsepower. Simple struts up front and a log axle out back. A five-speed pitted against two bolt-action sixes.

But look at the facts: At 3580 pounds, the Mustang is lightest by 300. A lively throttle reels in 60 mph nearly as quickly as the Camaro... and the car pulls the highest skidpad g (0.92) by a wide margin. The Ford stops in the same distance as the megabraked Camaro (162 feet), and it returned the best fuel economy (17 mpg) despite having the shortest gear ratios of the three cars.

That would still be 22 hp short of the Camaro. I don't know what the comparative weights of the cars are, though. If the Mustang is lighter, the P/W ratio could swing into its favor.

Stats from Car & Driver:

Camaro Curb Weight 3859@422HP = 9.14 lbs/HP

Mustang Curb Weight 3400@402* = 8.46 lbs/HP
*projected number

It's going to be pretty close...

Very surprising outcome

Thanks for the link.

I'm surprised as well! The "tale of the tape" would suggest that the Camaro would be the winner here.

I think I could live with any of the 3.

No doubt that all 3 will probably go faster, handle better and get better mileage than the 1966 GTO in my garage!

The Mustang GT tested by C&D only had 315hp.
