2010 Camaro, Challenger or Mustang?

No contest: The Challenger.

The Mustangs have been around consistently in various incarnations. The Camaro grew stale but has been around much, also. The Challenger, now that is something to notice. My high school buddy had a '71 Challenger (318) done up as an RT. Those things were rare back in the 80's. Almost non existent now. They did a great job with the styling.

Gimme one in Plum Crazy.

I think I would have to agree with jocko. The Challenger is at once a familiar and a fresh face. I like'em.

I'm afraid they do do "Plum Crazy" though. That WOULD be retro.

Here's some pics of my weekend wheels....despite my initial apprehension with the interior, I wouldn't hesitate to lay down my coin for a well equipped 2SS model as
I had a blast with this car - it's incredible how much fun the V6 LT was to drive - I can't imagine adding another 125 horses to the mix with an SS.

As I mentioned earlier, the interior could stand to have a few more brushed aluminum or chrome trim appointments to contract the mostly ebony interior color of the dash and door panels. The two tone gray cloth seats were very comfortable although a bit plain looking but the ride was very compliant, even over rough surfaces. Thanks, IRS!

After an hour or so, I felt more comfortable driving the Camaro acclimating myself to the limited rear visibilty and the driver's information cluster controls which were all on the turn signal stalk. The V6, with 304hp. was very strong and the manumatic 6spd was alot of fun tapping up and down through the gears. The accelerating exhaust note is a bit buzzy as I'm used to the LT1 note of my Camaro, but in contrast, highway cruising was a very smooth, quiet, and pleasant experience.

Some cons: I will say that I do not like the window controls. Both were express up and down capable and to crack the window a couple inches was laborious and downright distracting. Too damned touchy. Another compliant is the location of the headlamp switch. The steering wheel obstructs its view no matter how you adjust the tilt position and it felt awkward fumbling around for it to hit the lights. The radio display is big and fairly intuitive to use. I imagine that the Boston Acoustics premium sound system would really rock, but even the base radio was fun to crank up. I had to focus on the climate control buttons which seemed unnecessarily complex, but had a technological asthetic to them.

I found myself rarely looking at the analog gauges - I think they could have gone a little more upscale on the gauge needles though . I thought they looked cheap being flat and wide - you really can't tell in the picture at dusk, but it was one of about a dozen meaningless details that jumped out at me I could live with if I bought the car.

My wife loved the car - she drove it around Saturday afternoon and even had the sunroof open and the windows down. She refused to ever ride in my Camaro with the T-tops out, so that was quite a surprise.

The backseats, of course, are just for show for anyone taller than 4 feet, but Ethan seemed to enjoy it back there -so much he passed out on they way back from a family picnic.

We had a lot of fun and I'm going to hate to return the car today, but it was certainly worth it to have an opportunity to spend a weekend with a car like this before committing to it's purchase.

Now if I sell all my stereo gear, I could put a nice down payment on one.....:scratch2:

I dunno, Max. I'm glad you like the Camaro. To me it's just.........well.

However, everytime I cruise past the Dodge dealership the Devil whispers in my ear---
"Go ahead, Dave. You can afford it. It's so pretty and so fast. The chicks will dig it. Go ahead son, just sign the papers.":deal:

Arghhhh!

I know how you feel, Dave - some folks like it, some folks don't. And that's perfectly okay. Honestly, I'd be happy with any of the new three pony cars and I'd probably be tempted to rent the other two for my own personal comparo at some point just for curiosity-sake before I'd actually make a decision between the three cars. The Dodge dealership in town has two SRT8 Challengers sitting on their lot at the moment. One is black and the other is orange hue. For some reason, I hear the very exact voices telling me the same thing every time I drive by them. But @ $45K, I'd be swayed more at looking at a C6 Corvette coupe for a few K more before buying the Challenger....I guess I'm just a GM kinda guy.

I will say this....you get plenty of bang for the buck with this ride. I think the base model LS trim package starts out a tad over 22K. You don't get the aluminum wheels or the fog lamps like the LT has but if you're on a budget and were looking for something sporty and a hoot to drive, a base Camaro would work, IMHO.

I drove the Camaro Darren rented this weekend. My fiance and I ran up to their family get toether for his mom's b-day.

I personaly love the look of the Camaro. I had second thoughts when I got in to drive the car. It felt like a tank to me at first but got used to it after just a short time behind the wheel.

Rear visibility is pretty poor and wasn't too exicted about the interior but the seats are very comfortable. The gauges did seem a little cheap to me. The retro touch is nice but couldn't get an accurate reading without looking at the digital gauge.

I liked the power the car seemed to have even for a v6. No need to stomp the pedal to get the car to scoot along. The shifting seemed a little weak although that might change if you really stomped on the pedal. I completely forgot to mess around with the paddle shifters.

Overall my first driving impression was positive. I didn't think I would like it as much I would after first sitting in the car. There are a few things in the interior that I didn't care for that Chevy could surely improve upon.

Price wise it's a pretty easy choice for the Camaro between the three. The Dodge is WAY overpriced. There have been quite a few Challengers sitting in the lots around here. You don't see that with the Camaro although it hasn't been out as long either.

I like the look of the new Mustang and the price tag falls pretty close in line with the different models of Camaros. Although I'm not crazy about the redesign of the rearend. I still have yet to drive a Mustang. So it is yet to been seen if I would choose the Mustang over the Camaro.

BTW-Thanks goes out to my buddy MAXZ28 for letting me take the Camaro out for a little spin.

This thread is dangerous... And the pictures from Max are eating away at my willpower. I hope for financial safety sake that they DON'T have one in stock any time soon at the dealer in Simi Valley, CA. I think I'll start looking on Craigslist for a lo-mile repo-to-be that somebody bought without thinking. My wife got a virtually brand-new Lexus that way last year, with $10K savings. The first buyer's down payment check bounced. Somehow though, I think I'd have stiff competition if a Camaro comes up the same way.

Yea, this thread is dangerous...

I just went to the website and realized they brought back the old RT stripes. Man, that is not fair. What a cool retro American vehicle. The most significant in my lifetime, I think. They did a great job styling.

375 hp / 400 lbs-ft. Six speed manual. That is just the RT motor. How fun would that be? About as much fun as a 340 Six Pack back in the day.

There's a red R/T running around here with the stripe package which looks killer. I'm wondering if they'll make a Challenger T/A variant eventually. :scratch2:

Camaro in motion

In spite of all the Camaro discussions, I had yet to see one out on the road!

Yesterday, very close to my home, I saw one in a very attractive shade of blue. I believe it is called Aqua Blue Metallic. It looked very nice and was reminiscent of the Lemans Blue that was seen in 1969!

They definitely look good on the move!

Just an FYI....

:lurk: We'll see what the sales look like come October.

Production Stats:
Camaros produced in June 09: 9,456
Total Camaros produced to date (since March 16, 2009): 24,171

Delivery Stats:
Camaro June Deliveries 9,320
Total April - June Deliveries 15,397

Sales Stats:
June 09 Camaro sales: 9,320 units sold
June 09 Mustang sales: 7,632 units sold
June 09 Challenger sales: 1,369 units sold

I'm seeing the new Camaros in shockingly increasing numbers. From none a month ago, to one a week for a couple weeks, to 3 a day as of this week! That says a lot! The other difference is that the new Chrysler muscle cars are very available at the dealers in Simi Valley and in Los Angeles. No problem getting one. But the Chevy dealers in Northridge (Los Angeles-north) and in Simi Valley have only one in the showroom, and none on the lot. Sold before arrival!

Charles

To be fair

But in all fairness, and I do strive to be a fair guy, the Challenger has been available to the public longer and the Mustang has never really ever been in short supply.

I could live with any of the three, but I'm in the market for a specific roadster.

I have seen three Challengers in the last week on the road...what I find curious about the new design is that it is quite a bit taller (and less broad) in person than it is depicted in the photos where it is always viewed at an angle with fore-shortening to enhance the lateral horizontal look of the vehicle (as it truly was in the original). It still looks pretty nice in person, but I like it less now, as to my eye it appears to be a bit stubbier than I first thought. Some of this is due to the front and rear bumpers, but it's curious how different it looks in person than in photos.

Agreed. The strong sales are indicative of a new product release. I'm really curious how sales will be after the summer has come and gone and all the folks who've ordered their camaro's months ago have taken delivery of theirs.

I'm sure the sales will drop considerably and you might even find a few on the lots, but even if I were planning to buy one, I'd wait 'til the 2nd or 3rd model year. By then the hype will have died down.

Wanna see a sad sight?

Guy hugs a tree with his camaro the day after delivery. At least the car's safety features are impressive.

A wee bit too much power for the chap, perhaps?

I didn't read the all posts, just looked at the pictures and post or two. Too bad...damn nice car. Oh, I guess it's good the guy lived too, although sounds like he got pretty messed up.

He doesn't remember. The tree must have jumped out in front of him. You know they like to do that. :drunk::nutz::bash:

Oh well....so much for "The Dodge Boys" on this forum, I guess you kids are all too young........lucky bastards !

Anyways the answers is.........Mustang P-51D, the underbellied scoop on the fuselage.

Actually I knew that I'm just late too the thread.

As for your car in the picture betcha wish you still had it. IMO its the coolest car to appear in this thread including its replacement. Probably worth as much or more than a new one as well.
