The Yamaha would likely be the best for the genesis. I found it very hit or miss to find the right amplification. Not that the genesis are hard to drive, but they awaken with good amplification.

I drive my Genesis 210 with a Yamaha P2200 and it's a great match. I've tried the speakers with a Pioneer SX-450 receiver and to my surprise it sounded good also.
well, the smaller Yamaha on offer was grabbed up.. so it goes. If/when I get these Model II's in hand (Thursday is supposed to be the day!), and when I get them restored... I'll try them with my 50 WPC Technics and my 26 WPC Kenwood and see what wins (I suspect it'll be the Technics, with the higher power, but we'll see).
Meanwhile, lol, i also have a pair of KLH speakers to refurb... i think this is all the projects I can handle for the next 6 months.

Behold! I have these busted up speakers IN MY HANDS!
From the look of it, someone already re-foamed the passives and the drivers... but then the drivers got ripped up... also, noticed how ALL the dust caps were pushed in... so maybe kids did damage to both, especially since the drivers are at perfect toddler/pre-school kid height.
From the outside, the tweeters and passives look good.
Everything is covered in dog hair (gross). The spring clips on the back are both missing the red cap, for some reason... popped off and lost, maybe?
The little bit i can see inside, though the holes of the one driver, actually looks shiny and happy... so that's reassuring.
THey are in fact the Walnut vinyl clad, and NOT the veneered version... which means sanding and re-staining is out, at least as they are at the moment.

Mine are vinyl covered too.
Time to refoam the woofers. You can use suction to pull out the dust caps. Or you can try using tape to stick to the dustcap while you pull it out.
I replace those crappy spring clips with binding posts mounted on a rectangular plate. I get them from Parts Express.

I don't think the woofers are Genesis. They look like Bostons, probably A60s or A70s, based on the dust caps, foam gasket and filleted surrounds. We won't know till you pull the woofers.

The passives look right. Ditto on using a vacuum cleaner to pull the dents out. I use a shop vac with the 2" hose. Once the caps are out, they may have small dimples remaining. I use a small artist's paintbrush to liberally wet just the dust cap and then use the vacuum cleaner again. That usually helps take out the small dimples.

Took out one of the woofers last night in mine...no obvious identification marks to my inexperienced eyes. Did take a photo, though.
To disconnect these, is it better to remove the wires connected to the woofer, or remove the wire ends where they tie into the crossover?

I usually remove them from the driver. But I am careful when pulling the connector away from the terminal strip. The rivet holding the terminal strip to the basket sometimes will come off. I've had to epoxy some to hold it in place. I also sometimes use small pliers to pull the connector off the tab.
so, upon a little deeper research, the woofer I pulled out (photo above) i definately not original to the Model II -- its got a rounded magnet, not a square one.
How big of a deal is this? Does it really matter? Or was there something magical enough about these specific drivers that I should pony up the money for the "true" replacements from Human Speakers?

Alternately, I just found a pair of 70's era EPI 8 inch drivers on the Bay, re-foamed... would that be a better fit? Cost would be about half of buying the new drivers from Human Speakers..

Those woofers you have are Boston Acoustic woofers, not the original genesis woofers. Genesis did not use that type surround.

There is exactly ONE Genesis Physics Model 2 woofer on eBay at the moment...not a pair, but a single driver. :facepalm: Some reading I've done suggests that the woofers in the Genesis Physics and the EPIs, of the same era, are very similar to each other, and (inspite of the sales literature of the time), there's "nothing non-standard about them." Looking at photos of the two different drivers (G. Physics 8" and EPI M100 8"), the seem very similar... square magnet on the back. Similar voice coil. Both have foam surrounds (apparently earlier EPI100s had the rubber surrounds; later revisions moved to foam surrounds). The companies were contemporaries of each other... and Huw over at Human Speakers sells the exact same driver (the Pro 001 http://www.humanspeakers.com/e/parts/001.htm) as a replacement for BOTH Genesis Physics AND EPI M100s.
That said... are the boston accoustic drivers that i (probably) have crap? or is this a matter of pairing the right vintage/style for optimum performance?
I'd buy the upgrade woofers from Human Speakers -- but, that would set me back about $135 (i bought these damn speakers for $20 bucks, lol). Buying the EPI 100 woofers would only cost me about $55, i think. And they're refoamed already... My gut says go that path, because I honestly don't know if I'll be able to get these 20 dollar project speakers up and running, period.

You are on the right track. EPI and Genesis woofers are interchangeable. I have done the same thing on many of my Genesis/EPI speakers and I can't tell the difference at all.
