At 100% volume and input on CD I hear a small amount of hiss. What would be first step to reduce or eliminate it? I have a dedicated line powering all of my system.

My Luxman powercords are those non-detachable ones. They look so thin. Are they the culprit?

I don't believe Jack makes the Bybee Quantum Filters any more -- he's onto more TOP SECRET stuff in concert with, I believe Dale Pitcher of Intuitive Design. I happened to speak with Dale today regarding receipt of my final pair of interconnects from him & which are signed by Jack Bybee, Each sealed metal canister contains carbon nano tubes (CNT) which is then encased in wood (see photos). I'm not sure if these are single-walled or multi-walled (SWCNT or MWCNT).

Why do I mention it -- two reasons. I believe I have put 2+2 together to come up with what Jack is doing inlieu of the quantum filters -- carbon nano tubes, which are 10,000 times smaller than a human hair. Supposidly each cannister contains 60K nano tubes & the rest is TOP SECRET -- no one will elaborate. Secondly, is this the secret in Jack's super expensive ($4.2K) speaker bullets and $1K speaker tails?? I'd be willing to bet on the above.

CNT's are harvested in labs & are great conductors of electical components. So much so, that they conduct electricity 10 times more than common copper. On a side note, NASA has paid Rice University $11 Million to develope a 1 meter power cable from CNT's (prototype is due by 2010).

Change what outlets you have some of your components connected to. Your system has the ground for one or more components going through your amp or preamp instead of grounding through the equipment power cords.
Your Luxman power cords aren't the culprit.

Seeing as I'm cruising along with 109@1 watt speakers.... I can just about hear a knat fart from 20' away

I've actually done exactly this and I did it as recently as last night.

I've got things dialed in where (if I'm piddling around on the floor in front of the cd player etc...) I can just barely make out some hiss with things cranked to 100% Once I take the volume to about 50% volume, I don't hear much of anything. I'm sitting about 5' away from each speaker when I am doing this.

From the listening posistion, maybe another 5' away... you don't hear a thing.

Change the equation around some and have some program source PLAYING when the volume is at 50% and you'd best have some hearing protection on as I've got about 450 watts available on each section (biamped)

For those with preamps with meters & tube phono's -- to troubleshoot hum, turn your amps off, leaving preamp on. Move preamp selector to MM or MC & turn volume up gradually -- keeping an eye on the meters. You'll probably see the meters register something (hum in all likelyhood) around 12 or 1 position. Don't fret. You can try tube swapping which will either register a higher or lower meter reading than previously. Also by tube swapping, you will change the sound. With 12 volt phono tubes, IMO you won't be able to push them as hard with no load as a SS phono section.

I just spent an afternoon plugging and unplugging my gears. I noticed a very loud hum coming from the speakers when I plugged the poweramp to a powerstrip that the preamp also shared. When I plugged the poweramp directly into an outlet, the hum is a lot lower. But still audible. I finally tracked down the source to the TV cable that connects from the wall to my cable box. If I remove this cable, hum was pretty much gone. Now, is there such a device to minimize the hum that's coming from the TV station?
A cheater plug on the cable box won't work right? The cable box is already 2 pronged.

You have a ground loop with the Cable TV cable. This is the most common cause of a ground loop. Check out this thread, especially post #13.

I had a little tuner bleed over with my C2200 at max volume, I also think it may be normal.
