I've been a member too long to participate, but will watch the results of this poll with interest.
Of course, there is the question of whether or not one can read ANYTHING meaningful into the results of such a poll, for various reasons:
The majority of the people on AK are lurkers, not posters who might respond to a poll.
Not every newbie on AK will see this poll, let alone respond to it.
AK does not necessarily represent the majority of audio-interested people.
etc...
In other words, I'm not sure that this poll has any statistical validity of any kind, but it will still be interesting to see the results. If enough people DO respond for it to be statistically representative of anything, then it could be meaningful. It's worth the try!
Looking at the results so far, maybe it IS representative? One sees the "bulge" of a nicely-distributed curve around 50-59 years of age, which would be the baby-boomers who came of age around the "golden years" of vintage audio, and who remember things like the "receiver wars". Then there is a second bulge --more of a spike, really, of people in the 20-29 range, which could reflect the people who have been coming of age in this era of the "vinyl resurgence." The people in the middle --the ones in their thirties-- are presumably all over on the boombox forums!
Interesting results, so far. I'd love to see this repeated ten years later, to see if the now-teen group equals, exceeds or falls short of the people who are now in their 20s. In other words, would the 20s spike be a one-off spike, or the start of a big, sustained bulge?
