The ultimate speaker you want, but do not have

Maybe it's just the insanity of them, but Infinity IRS V's. I heard them waaaaay back at an audiophile shop in Santa Ana, CA where I used to work. Everything about them is bloody massive, but they were amazing. The guys in the room were griping about the "transition of solidity from the bass to mid-bass", and I was thinking "F@#K, I bet Rush would sound bitchin' through these!

Closer to reality-land would be JBL Paragons.

And down to earth? I'm with a lot of folks here: Yami NS-1000's. I have never even seen them in person before, and I got to see a lot of cool stuff at the store.

EDIT: @waklandtalk - right behind you!
There are a pair of NS-1000's for $550. Also a set of Infinity IRS-1B's for $2000, both on my local CL.

I would pick one of the huge JBL's, like the Everest, or Paragon, or a number of other gigantic JBL's.

The Everests positively for sure.
The Paragons are $iconic$ but really don't sound so good, although AnnaBella may prefer the icon:)

Ohhhh, about $46,003 in upgrades to my Chorus II's ought to do me proper.

I'm sure I could spend 10 grand just buying some outboard crossovers that are bigger than my actual speakers... :)

But for the moment I'm good.

At the moment I believe I'd go with the Coincident "Pure Reference Extreme," which retails for about $26,000:

Otherwise, probably one of the new Magicos.

I'd give another vote for the Klipschorns. I own Belles and love them. Although I haven't heard many speakers, especially ones mentioned in this thread, I have heard the Klipschorns. Also, I believe some day I'll own a pair because they're not out of my price range. Especially used (Uh...pre-owned).

+1 on the KHorns. Only reason I dont have them is lack of space. I love my Lascalas and would never consider replacing them, after all, I owned them since new in 82!!. Also, Id like a pair of the Belles. I've listened to Beles and Lascalas side by side and I do prefer the lascalas just a very little, obviously, but still always wanted a pair of Belles.

I know enough to know that I would not know 'Ultimate' type speakers if I woke up in bed next to them, one ['bright-and-sunny' :D] morning! So my aspirations are pretty 'basic'.

I would like to audition a decent pair of LS 3/5a [e.g. by Stirling], just to hear what all the fuss has been about. I'm almost prepared to be disappointed with those, though - as I do like 'some' base going on.

About a year before I left Canada [around 2008], I tentatively purchased a pair of very nice looking Forte IIs from a guy in MA. Shipping them was eventually ruled out ['packing/risk/cost'], so I agreed to come down from Toronto and pick them up. I was due to leave for points North West of Boston, when he decided that he would sell them locally [I must have misread his level of patience!]. So that was that. I'd researched the models that I was interested in for over a year, previous to the above, so I am still very interested in finding out if they would suit me. And, even even though I have never heard a pair, I rather think that they would. An audition would be the name of the game here too.

JBL 4300 series.

Actually, any JBL speaker system that sounds great. Maybe someday. Not presently looking but it would be nice. Seriously thinking about it.

I would like to have the Adire "Parthenon" subwoofer with a laminated Baltic birch/Carbon Fiber 25 square foot "cone".

Which would compliment these main speakers:

I believe that until I found something distinctive, that these would be satisfactory.

I don't think that those speakers are nearly big enough. You'd have no troubble getting the wife to accept those.

I'm wondering what the pillows are for, are they part of the design? Can't imagine having my head in there when the music is playing. :)

Hi Jim,

Her only problem would be getting me to accept the divorce papers :D

Perhaps if I included a HT like those we saw Thursday evening...

Best Regards,
Terry

LOL. So what's the function of King Tut's dog and the 12V gel-cell? Is that supposed to act as your companion in the afterlife after your wife kills you, and then bury's you inside of these beasts? ;-)

The ultimate that I want and have neither the money or the space for would be, in no particular order.

Infinity IRS V's
Apogee Grand's
Martin Logan Statement's
I've heard all three of these in the proper environment. I could live with any of the three.

The next step down. Making them just barely possible to buy while living on a strict diet of Raman noodles.
Infinity IRS Beta's
Apogee Studio Grands
I've heard both of these also and could live with either. I could actually squeeze them into my room.

If those companies refurbishing Apogee speakers would refurbish the Stages I'd be doing some serious looking for a pair of Apogee Mini Grands. I've heard them also.

The gel-cell is for the night-lite. Those pyramids get kinda dark and spooky at night.
:yikes:

The Dog is "Nipper", he'd miss "his master's voice", so he goes with me.
