I think there's actually two of them (CS-300 behind the right speaker stand).
And I second your call of the Harbeth 40.1. I was actually just about to click on this thread to post that, but you beat me to it. That would be all the speaker that I ever need.

However there is really no "ultimate" speaker at any price level imo (and yes I've heard pretty much all of the "best of the best" at all price levels from sane to crazy...at least up to a few hundred k). They all have strengths/weaknesses and it's a matter of personal preference ultimately.

I DO have to run through this whole thread for enjoyment's sake. However 2 come to mind immediately.
Nola Grand Reference:
The builder also made the first speakers in the mid 70s that made me go, "Wow, that's what it's supposed to sound like." with his Dahlquists.
The next would be Avant Garde Trios:
Just look at these! How could I NOT want them in my living room.
Added after: I guess these horns have NOTHING on the monsters previously posted! I don't even think a large dog could fit in the large horn.
An Army buddy of mine bought a pair in '77 when they first came out. I'll never forget the effortlessness these seemed to display. Never knew what a soundstage was until then. And we were listening to FM through a TOTL JVC reciever while stationed @ Ft. Meade.
Kind of made it hard to go back to the barracks and listen to my Polks. :tears:
The ultimate? Who knows? But, I think I'd be satisfied for at least a couple days with a pair of Revel Salon 2s. A fairly conservative choice, at least in overall conventionality, in the world of Dreamland.
JBL Everest or K2's come to mind but if I had unlimited resources, I'd do it Hong Kong style and build in a speaker system into my separate listening room, engineered for just audio purposes. I heard a pair of Infinity IRS, recently, the walnut ones that Rick had at Cobblefest 1.2 and they are up there with the best I've heard.
Posted previously, that no matter how excellent the product, there are always compromises. I don't know if I could endure the heartbreak of spending $10k's on speakers and find them lacking in some aspect. *goes back to listening to 16 cu. ft. Altecs*
