Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

Gentlemen,
As of right now, I am not going comment past this post on GT 2000s. I'm not walking away from the turntable. Merely walking away from talking about it.

Now I mean this; You are a sterling bunch and I sincerely wish you all well. Keep spinning the tunes. You will see me here at AK. l will l will see you here too. GOD be with you.

Ok, it's been fun following along. It's a great thread. I can listen for hours / read along. You pretty much have me sold on a GT 2000 and have furnished me with knowlage should the opertunaty arise. Thank you .
Cheers

Between Mark's advice on gear and theo's compendium on the GT you really can't go wrong. You'll be hard pressed to find another deck that can translate the low end of an LP like a GT can. The mids and highs simply come down to component selection and the degree of isolation you impose. What could be simpler?

If my comments on the (in my mind) questionable value of the various GT-2000 upgrades in any way put you off Theo I apologize and hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us. It's primarily you that got me (and others I'd assume) into this wonderful world of the GT in the first place.

Guys,
I am back to the forum since I figured I want my GT performing it‘s best. A lot of information has been given since I last visited (spend a few hours to keep up), so will recap the control board, (I think it needs too long to start-up and didn‘t perform too well in a w&f test) and build a sota yop-1 replacement during the winter and thinking about isolation. No way I buy 14 unobtainable clearaudio magnet pucks for insane money, though!
What else could we do? Any isolation platforms that come into your mind?
A forums rebuild of the original isolation thingy you see at TVK, perhaps?
And, then there‘s the arm. I have it rewired for balanced operation: solder joint at the headhslle connector and then straight to the phonopre connecting there with lemo-plugs. Not particulary bad. But then, I own a SAEC 407/23 as well (not the gt-version) has some one managed to fit it to the gt-2000?

Love to hear you‘re musings...
Rüdiger

Rudiger,

I have fitted the SAEC 308 SX onto my yamaha GT2000 table. i have written about it on Audiokarma. So if you search for it, you will find the thread. I basically bought a mounting plate on yahoo auctions in Japan, and fit the 308SX onto it. i don't think it would be much more different for your SAEC 407/23. A while back i found a japanese blog comparing using the regular 407/23 vs using the 407GT, but i cannot find it right now.

Good luck.

Very nice! What cartridge are you using with it?

I am using AT 33 pig II on it. Looking to upgrade to ART9 next year.

Very cool...I have a WE-308 sitting in Japan on a 2000L. Hopefully can get over there sooner than later to bring it back with me. The AT-33ptg/ii is a great cart (I own one).

Ah, how do you like the YAB anchor?

I think I hurt my back a little bit setting it up. :( . It is quite heavy, however the turntable can be shaken, but the YAB is solid and immovable. I just got it, so long term impression will take a while to form. Will let you know.

I have an aftermarket one that I purchased from another member. I can't remember his ID but he's the dentist. :) I haven't been spinning mine much the past couple of years but that could change soon. I run a Mustang forum which has been taking up a lot of my time but I still check in here occasionally.

@theophile I may retire next year and if I do I have a machinest friend of mine that owes me a favor. If someone has the exact dimensions of the platter I can check with him. He likes doing different projects.

I do have a YOP-1.

Unless I am mistaken I think you are the first member here to have a YAB...very cool!

Hi everyone and merry Christmas to you all.

I was wondering if anyone knows if the AT ART9 cartridge would fit the YSA-1 tonearm?

I remember Theo advised his Soundsmith “The Voice” cart didn’t fit well with YAS-1.

The 407/23 is tough to fit without enlarging the hole a bit. The Y31 armboard comes with its own pillar that I think is narrower to get the tonearm close enough.

Amazing that YAB! Do keep us posted on the sound.

The ART9 should match very well with the YSA-1. The ART9 at 8.5gm is in the middle of the range for both the YA-39 and YSA-1.

The ART9 is an excellent cartridge. I like it as much as my ZYX R1000 Airy3.
