Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

I'll be adding one to my GT as well once my vintage Spectral wears out. I tried it briefly on my YA-39 and it sounded sublime. But the Spectral just has that extra little bit of excitement so the ART9 ended up on the VPI.

The ART9 should match very well with the YSA-1. The ART9 at 8.5gm is in the middle of the range for both the YA-39 and YSA-1.

The ART9 is an excellent cartridge. I like it as much as my ZYX R1000 Airy3.

Thanks Mark for the advice I’m pretty keen to try one. Like you I’ll probably source one from HK. I’m currently using a shelter 501 with the YA-39 which I really like too. Has anyone purchased a aftermarket YOP-1 recently? If so can they please provide a link?

I just thought I’d mention the W&F figures as there are a few mistakes probably lost in translation on TVK & other western webpages. As one travels up the GT chain W&F ratings are improved: GT-750 = 60, GT-2000/L = 50 GT-2000x = 25. Now I’m not sure if the W&F measurements were done in exactly the same manner here. Now the new Grand Prix Monaco Direct drive W&F = 20 however we are comparing a 32 year old turntable (2000x) or 37 year old turntable (GT-2000) to a modern one that costs around $28,000 USD. Interestingly the extremely rare and much more expensive (over 3 times cost of the GT-2000x) Denon DP-100 broadcasts turntable also had a W&F of 20. The Japanese we’re truly masters of direct drive turntable design all those years ago.

greetings,

i've been a lurker here over the last several weeks devouring as much information as i can about the gt 2000 family. i'm happy to say i'm planning on taking the plunge in the next month or two. yippeeeee!

in my research, i ran across a few pages that i thought it might interest a few souls reading the thread (including theophile? ;-).

apparently, at the 2017 tokyo international audio show, yamaha showed this turntable, a belt-drive unit whose design is otherwise inspired by the gt 2000 series: https://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1083469.html

and another link with enlargeable images: https://www.phileweb.com/news/audio/201709/29/19113.html

yamaha made the announcement via twitter, viewable on this page: https://www.phileweb.com/news/audio/201709/28/19107.html

but neither site nor the twitter announcement seems to have included a model name/number and no info on price or availability. a search from yamaha home audio's homepage (in japanese) leads to no results.

fingers crossed?

... any new news about new Yamaha turntable ? I heard a gossip about Yamaha turntable with ... MusicCast :-)

GT-2000 problem liftarm-bank dont move anymore.
Hello together, I can nowhere find information how to fix this problem.
After using with out problems the manual handlift the move from the bank to lift up the tonarm becomes less and lesser until have no reaction any more. If I move the bank with finger upstairs easy and let it goes down but no chance to lift it with the lift stick. Sorry for my bad English. Regards from Germany...
Can someone help from this fine forum?

Hey thanks for this! I've stumbled upon this same thing in random japanese youtube videos. If the piano finish model actually comes to fruition, I hope I can order a set of the feet to go with my OG GT!

Hello again,

i read all i can find in this forum and all i can find on internet about Yamaha GT-2000 and the GT series but nowhere can find information about the manuel- Tonarm-Lift. How is this working? Mechanic or electric impuls with IC or have a bad cap or something else??
Nobody else had this problem with the hands-lifter?

Have someone an idea how the tonarm bank get impuls from the hands lift?
I think its all the same system arm from GT-750, GT-1000 and the GT-2000

are you referring to the yal-1 auto-lifter? if you are, here is a blog entry with visuals and written information (use google translate or a japanese friend) on installing the unit.

i'm also attaching a pdf from yamaha (again, only in japanese) with explicit instructions on installation. this would have been what purchasers of the yal-1 would have received with their unit.

best of luck!

Thank you for trying to help me to fix the problem.
I mean the original hands -lift with the small
Stick beside the ton arm. It doesn't give reactions to the ton arm rest bank if move it.
I look if the PDF you send to me give some information about the technik from the Manuel lift up. Thanks !
Regards Andreas

you may also find these two blogs to be of help because the owner of the tonearm took it apart and included photos along the way...

I had the same issue. The adjustment screw came loose. It is near the bearing on the left side of the armwand. If you‘re lucky you just have to readjust it a turn or two.

@ Onvinyl,
thank you, that help me a step forward. Its no screw to see at there.. so its loose the screw. i hope i can find the screw, because before it work`s.

No its not loose, i check again and it have the screw very far inside the armbank.(left side of the armwand on the rounded side) the bank who can lift the arm up or down.
If turn more inside or to outside change nothing an can not fix the problem..
