Hi all,
First of all, this has nothing to do with my previous post, nor the turntable discussed on it.
I have been having a fairly consistent issue with Rock music sounding a bit harsher and more muddy than Jazz and Classical, heck even hip hop, on my OTHER turntable set up.
Everything is as...
I recently acquired A very nice condition and well working Tandberg Solvsuper 10. It is a late model with power button and AFC. produces 6-8 watts per channel, with 30 watts peak. I'm running it to RadioShack Minimus 7 pair and a Theater Solutions Sub8S with very good results in a small space...
I could use a bit of help on this as I work on repairing this CR-220 I have have since about 1980. A year ago, I heard a pop from the right speaker in the middle of the night that woke me up. The unit was turned off when this happened. I noticed on follow up that it would pop occasionally when I...
I've been reading about how noisy the 5v lines are, especially on PC's, and how such noise can affect the sound, especially when the noisy power is connected to a DAC. $50 USB power cubes and battery banks are often used as a solution. I came across this and am curious if others have tried it...
Hello everyone. I got a Yamaha CDX-550E here that works fine, but in quiet passages of music that sounds like "tch tch tch tch", kinda in the speed of the CD spinning. I thought it might be the spindle-motor, being noisy, so i put a ceramic-capacitor across it, 0.1µF, i think. Maybe i should...
Hi all,
I've got a Marantz Pm400 on my bench, nice amplifier. It works, one channel playing fine, the other has weird noise which almost gets dangerous to speakers - it's something like a cracking/almost a bit like fireworks, sometimes gets lower, then suddenly comes back again, never stops...
I have a McIntosh C20 that has been completely restored (All caps and resistors replaced).
There is an inconsistent noise coming from the unit. Noise is louder in the phono section. Noise appears about 1x per second but is inconsistent when it shows up. There is a consistent sounding noise...
Hi all,
Many thanks to all who posted in a previous thread of mine helping me diagnose a speed clutch issue. While I've yet to work on that, I did replace the suspension, which was a big level-up for this newbie like me.
Relatedly, a new issue has presented itself. After having replaced the...
Hello,
I recently acquired what I presume to be a Sylvania Record Player from the 1950s. It plays records excellent without problems, however.... it has this buzzing coming from the speakers that can't be ignored when on medium/high volumes. It only starts when the record turntable is engaged...
Hi everybody, I hope everyone is doing good. I have been trying to live with this noise that is coming from my little dot mk 2 for last 1 1/2 years until I realized it is not its nature, something is wrong with it.
What I Tried
* Changing tubes / Capping unused ports / New cables / New source...
Hello,
First post here - thanks for reading! :)
I've bought a used NAD 106 preamp. I know it's nice, but not this one - is hums all the time when connect to amp or active speakers. Sound like 50hz hum from the psu. Everything looks very nice on the pcb and no visual errors to be seen, the pcb...
Hello all, I have a Revox turntable in working condition, I've replaced all the capacitors, diode bridges and whatever is reasonable in such an old machine, the regulators I remember, in practice all the components that Revox experts recommends to change.
The speed is OK, from time to time...
Hi there guys, I really need your help.. I don't know a better place to ask then on an audiophiles forum. I've uploaded video to YT describing my problem (it was easier like that I guess).
My knowledge about this issue is really limited unfortunately.. :(
Thanks in advance,
Morphy.
My Mr77 sounds fine, but at around 10 minutes after power-up, the right channel gives way completely to white noise. Though the station is strong (6+), a quick turn of the Stereo Filter switch to 1 returns the sound on the right and the sound is clear for the duration. If I switch the filter...
I recently bought this thing for cheap, and I'm ready to split it open and solder if necessary.
It makes a lot of noise even without a tape in it. And even when an external speaker is connected.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance:)
As built by VTA, my M-125 mono-blocks were very noisy, ≈55db unweighted.
After fixing build and design errors, the amps quietened almost 40db to ≈93db unweighted.
I suspect many DIY and retro designs may suffer similar problems.
In an effort to help others with similar problems, complete...
I've developed an issue with my restored Fisher X-202 integrated tube amplifier
if I play a CD, I can hear the faint sound of music coming through at ZERO volume setting
I usually start off a playing session at zero volume, then immediately raise to the desired listening level... I do not...
Hi my friends. This is my first post so I will introduce myself. I’m Javier, I live in Argentina. I studied electronics in high school and got an Electronics Technician degree.
After some time searching online for a vintage receiver I found this Kenwood KR 2090 that apparently was in a deposit...
With this (loong) post, I seek not so much to elicit responses (though always welcome) but more to convey information which corrects certain misconceptions which lead to the erroneous dispensation of misinformation leading others astray.

I just acquired a 2270, and did a full re-cap. There's a 60Hz triangle wave hum I can measure with a scope (which may or may not have been there before) that gets louder with increased volume, independent of source selection. I can also still here it when I disconnect the pre-amp, but it no...
Hello everyone, attached is an audio file of my turntable making a thudding noise as it spins. This was recorded with a microphone held directly over the middle of the platter. The speakers do not pick this noise up, but I just wanted to make sure this is not indicative of an issue that might...
I have just been given an Akai 4000DB that hasn't been used in at least a decade, and the take-up reel makes a whirring noise while rotating (the supply reel does not). The sound continues if I stop the platter with my hand (which is quite easy to do, and bounds easier than it is for the supply...
I'm working on a line stage pre-amp that I plan to (mostly) build on a PCB. I plan to put two tube sockets on the PCB -- a noval for a 12AX7, half of which will be used for a tone control amplifier for each channel, and an octal for the output stage (a 6AS7 / 6080), again, half of which will be...
I'm resurrecting my old Dual 1209 turntable
did a basic mechanical cleanup and lube... motor runs strong and steady, idler wheel cleaned, etc.
installed a used Shure M91ED body, with a brand-new Tonar aftermarket stylus
I've done some basic cartridge setup:
- cartridge positioned within the...
Hey folks,
I’ve got an ongoing issue with my setup that I can’t seem to figure out so I thought I’d turn to the experts here at AK! The details of my gear are below but here’s an explanation of the issue:
Long story short, the woofers in my speakers are violently pulsating back and forth both...
