greatest rock frontman ever.

I was going to say Tom Waits, but since this thread is about the "Rock Star persona", I'll go with Morrison from the 60's, Iggy Pop from the 70's, David Lee from the 80's and Bono from the 90's.

Let's see: 10 hours & 20-something replies and still no mention of Bruce Springsteen as a candidate for <insert superlative here> "rock frontman".

Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull or Peter Gabriel from the 70's Genesis era.
John Lee Hooker - he just sat in a chair, played his guitar and sang. He didn't have to do anything else!
Miles Davis - What a presence!!

I obviously don't go for a bunch of stage antics or other such nonsense!

The best name for a front man, while we're on the subject of L.A. punk, was LEE VING.
Wasn't he with Black Flag?

Without question, as far as I'm concerned. And, at their high point around 72 or so, Rod Stewart fronting The Faces was almost as good a live band as Springsteen and the E Street Band a few years later.

I've been a Mick Jagger fan since the beginning, but having said that, my vote for best rock frontman of all time is Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin.

What about Lux Interior from the Cramps? Although nether of these guys compares to Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys.

My votes are for Hughie Thomasson of the Outlaws and Jim Dandy Mangrum from Black Oak Arkansas. Both polar opposites in that Jim infected the crowd with his 'outgoing, ha, ha' demeanor and Hughie with his tremedous command of the band. Also, Hughie would take half a step forward, lower his head and blow you away with his beautiful playing. Somehow Hughie made you feel that they were all their playing for you personally.

A bit different, but Bryan Adams was most impressive when we went to see him a couple years ago.

No pretense, T shirt and jeans, and had the crowd eating out of his hand the entire show. We found him very charismatic, a thoroughly enjoyable concert.

Kenny Shields of Streetheart back in the day was great too. :D
