greatest rock frontman ever.

I'm curious. How would you describe Wilco if not a R&R band?

I'm curios too! Their music is all over the place. Really unfair to classify them into one genre. I went to Wiki and got this
Alternative rock, indie rock, alternative country, folk rock, experimental rock
I look at R&R in a more traditional way, maybe that's just me.

There's a topic for a thread. What's R&R? I'm reminded of Dire Straits' Sultans of Swing - "They don't give a damn for any trumpet-playing band. It ain't what they call rock and roll."

I flew through this thread pretty quickly.... its hard to argue against Jagger... just based on longevity... other greats from other eras.... Morrison, Bowie, Iggy, Jello , Mercury , Rotten.... Angus in his heyday was incredible... Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music is one hell of showman also..... - I never saw the Doors, and I was always busy when Iggy was in town , I remember he was playing the stardust/hollywood CA in late 70's , I called a buddy to go but my friend did not feel like it..... usually I would just go by myself.... but for some reason I did not... -always regretted that one. I have been lucky enough to see all the other acts on my list though.... guess I really can't complain..... ec

That's why you can hear Roth's voice when the mic is nowhere near his big fat mouth. And what the hell is he wearing?

Aw man, I wish I could un-see that. No wonder I unplugged the radio thru the '80s.

So many great ones mentioned here I would have to go with...

1. Alice Cooper
2. Alex Harvey
3. Ozzy
4. Jim Morrison
5. Robert Plant

So many great ones to choose. But this list ain't bad. For pure showmanship and entertainment, "Remember the Coop"!

Tweedy is engaging live, and obviously a huge talent, both performing and writing. The only question being, is Wilco a rock band? He didn't front Uncle Tupelo.

He sorta co-fronted (w/ Farrar) UT, in the same manner as lennon & McCartney fronted The Beatles.

I think of Wilco as Alt-Country-Roots/Americana +. Tweedy's work with Billy Bragg was inspired.

Well heck, Billy Bragg was a pretty darned talented frontman, although (usually) the only band member on stage.

Richard Thompson is an excellent frontman, has been for (nearly) 40 years.
